I don't require a donation thank you, I'm just wondering why they do. Frankly, I'd be embarrassed if one of my children asked for donations for me just because I was old and sick, I was curious to know if there are exceptional circumstances that's all. Jeez, some people... RIP Norma Waterson, am gutted. tradfolk.co/music/writing-music/norma-waterson/Some people indeed! For those that don’t know, that’s Martin beside me in my photo. If you do know you’ll understand their position after two years with no work. Very sad day. As well as the music Norma and I came from Hull as did all the original Watersons. Lovely lady never to be forgotten. RIP

RIP My point was simply that people in their eighties shouldn't have to work for money. I don't understand why they should be different from everyone else? I can understand donating money to younger musicians struggling to pay a mortgage or bring up a family but people of their age should not be in need of donations!

So very sad. Her musical legacy will long live on, both through her own glorious singing and the inspiration she gave to her daughter.

I remember seeing the Watersons in the mid 1960s at my local folk club - the enthusiasm and harmonies bowled me over. The extended Waterson-Carthy family have made such consistently glorious music over such a long period of time, and will, thankfully, continue to do so despite the sad loss of Norma, who will be much missed. Condolences to her family, of course.

Sad when people pass, especially those who have shared their talent. 82 not too bad compared to some who have passed early but sad nonetheless. Just a word on the comments made in response to malcolm . This forum has in very large part been a beacon of tolerance, respect and acceptance that views sometimes (or even often) legitimately differ. This makes this forum (in my opinion) stand out from some other forums (dare I say ones across the pond). It seemed to me that Malcolm’s views were in that legitimate category. They just differed from those who chose to donate. The tolerance, respect and acceptance does, of course, come served with side notes of gentle grumpiness and curmudgeon.
