I've always been vaguely aware of them (one of the books I learned harmonica from in my teens was by Tony Glover), but I've found myself really enjoying these guys recently. There's a such a raggedy joy to the way they approach blues music.
I just wondered if there were any other fans here?

I had and read Tony Glover's book as well - 'you can always dip the harp in a glass of whisky to break it in' I seem to remember (that was cool reading for a seventeen year old). It seemed to be the only thing around in those days. I seem to remember him going through Little Walter's keys that he used and realising that I didn't have enough money to buy that many harps - I only had a Marine Band C, and he described a lot of Jimmy Reed as well if I think. I don't know where it went - it was a treasured possession.
Nowadays we have the interweb, thanks for the nudge - I'll search them out.

I used to enjoy Alexis Koerner's radio show. It was where I first heard those old bluesmen like Lightning Hopkins, and it was where I first heard Stefan Grossman, too, who's become a great influence through his teaching material. I recall seeing Koerner at a gig - it was just him and a bass player, if I recall correctly. And as regards the book- yes, I have a copy somewhere, too - complete with flexidisc.
It's a great call regards Koerner Ray and Glover, they have a great style. I reckon a little combo like that would clean up round these parts.

Derek Ah, I fear we may be at cross purposes here - the Koerner of Koerner Ray & Glover was Spider John Koerner, a staple of the Minneapolis music scene and an early influence of Bob Dylan

It surprises me how many times I've had to explain to people that all it does to a harmonica with a plastic comb is make it sticky 😂

Ah, my bad. An assumption made incorrectly. Who'd have thunk there would be two blues Koerners?

In my misspent youth I had a copy of their first album on Elektra. Elektra albums were great for rolling a spliff on because the cardboard was so thick. Anyway I foolishly loaned mine to a friend and it never came back. Still love the music though.

I'm always amused that my vinyl copy of Professor Longhair: Live On The Queen Mary seems to have had a number of strips of card torn from the sleeve in a manner that might suggest it's use in the manufacture of roaches by a previous owner
