I've just discovered this sad news and was really shocked by his death - an all to often feeling for me these days unfortunately.
I met him at a guitar workshop back in the 90's. He was a cracking player and such a lovely guy.
I was only going through his YouTube videos the other day. Such a shame.
RIP

Had my first guitar lesson with Woody in 1999. I had a wonderful time attending his International Guitar Seminars at New York in 2001 and 2005. He was a very gentle man, a very patient teacher and an all round good guy. One fond memory was having a pint with him at the Liverpool Philharmonic Dining Rooms pub after his gig across the road at the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic. I'll miss him. woody phil by Iain Paterson, on Flickr

I had one of his teaching video Tapes. I learnt Diddie Wah Diddie and this one: Black Dog Blues. I didn't get the fast runs, well I haven't yet, and moved on, but did get what I still think is the really nice tune and A7, D7, and G7 chord movement. I think it was him who mentioned that Blind Blake recorded a couple of tracks with a jazz band and what the future may have held had he lived longer and developed the link. I think that's why I like and listen to Tuba Skinny who combine these two things. So many roads, so many roads. thanks, much appreciated.

Tragic news, thanks for sharing.
I went to IGS in 1999 and 2000 and met up with Woody every time he came to Birkenhead.

Sad news, I too have a couple of his tapes and book sets. I consider him a great teacher as well as a great player.

I have just posted a video of Ragtime uk playing Woody’s arrangement of Saturday Night Rub and then come to this post. Sad news indeed.

Wow. The man was a legend. Got a few of his books and lessons. Was waiting to hear from him about the Buxton weekend this summer after the last 2 we’re cancelled.…… when you email and the man himself replies made me realise we’re all normal even if you’re a guitar god.
