This may be something of a niche concern, but I am from time to time called upon to perform music in an outdoor setting such as a festival or garden party. One issue I have discovered is that if the sun is out, or even if it's overcast but bright then I often can't see the screen/LEDs on most electronic tuners. As I quite often swap between tunings mid-set, and I can't always rely on crowds to maintain polite silence while I tune by ear, I wondered if anyone had knowledge of a tuner that would be clearly visible in such an environment?

Haven't tried in the sun but would a sound hole tuner (like www.daddario.com/products/accessories/tuners/micro-soundhole-tuner/) be more shadowed and easier to see? I've used the predecessor (which isn't multi-coloured) but not outside. Alternatively buy more guitars; one for each tuning

If it's an amplified gig, I've never had any problems with visibility on my Boss TU-3 - it has a high brightness mode as well.

I have ditched all of my modern tuners, and gone back to using my Korg GT1 which must be 30 years old. You can still pick them up for £15 on certain auction sites, easy to read in any light, and can plug a jack in if needed.

TU-3 bright mode works well for me... failing that I have a flap of cardboard and some gaffa tape in my gig bag that makes a little shade!

In my e-mail inbox this morning: "From now through May 26th, we’re giving Players Circle members an exclusive chance to win a Nexxus 360 Tuner. Our newest, most innovative headstock tuner is fully rechargeable and lets you tune from any angle, in any light." www.daddario.com/dashboard/nexxus-360-tuner-giveawayI like the idea of these things being rechargeable. They should do the same with lots of things, like, you know, cars.

I do own a TU-3, but it hadn't occurred to me to test it in sunny conditions - I also had not noticed that a 'bright' mode was an option.
I've also ordered a KORG CA-2 which has an unlit old-school LCD screen so I'll see how I get on with that as well.
