An interesting and already wide ranging documentary even after just 20 minutes into it - many thanks for posting. When the idea of truly connecting with music and the musician by being in the same space / location / room as them came up early in the video, I got a mix of feelings - nostalgia for when I remember it happening for me, and anger with today's audiences who prevent it. Maybe I've been unlucky with those audiences in more recent times, but I found it increasingly rare to be in the same space as a musician where there is no incessant chatter and noise from the audience - so it's almost impossible to focus well enough to connect and really listen to the music. The last ever gig I went to I did manage to float away totally absorbed in the music - sadly to be jolted out of it when the noise around me intruded and broke the spell after a few minutes. I really hated these people at that moment and sat fuming for the rest of the night. I've not managed to go to any other musical performance since. I found it a help to playing music when I realised that listening to music as a musician is different to listening to it in a passive way as an audience. Feeling the sound and reacting to the sounds - getting in that zone where you find that 10 minutes have gone by and you've been aware of nothing else but those musical sounds and progressions. That zone used to be my anti-depressant medicine when I had a job. That different way of listening is also a big step towards getting your own sound, style and essence (for good or bad!). I need to pause watching now after 25 minutes and post this, but I'll definitely come back to this video and watch the rest of it. Mark

A rather long but fascinating documentary How many of us really do listen? Everyone wants to be heard. Listening needs to be a skill to be perfected. Thanks.

A rather long but fascinating documentary How many of us really do listen? Not I, according to Mrs Doc. Seriously Ged, I found that very interesting. Thanks for posting it.
