Hi,
Through my activities on the AGF or my YouTube channel, I've been contacted by a young singer-songwriter (everyone is young to me now) asking about how to get gigs.
I run my "Acoustic Music Club" twice a month here in West Sussex. First Saturday of the month I hold a simple singaround, and on the third Friday evening I hold a "Club Session" where I offer 15 minute spots using a single large condenser mic into a Bose L1. For which I ask for prebooking. I pay for the hall hire, and musos pay me towards the hall hire.
There's a "folksong" Club in my town, some "jams" (noisy) and Open-Mics.
My impression from my area at least is that hardly any semi-pros get paid club gigs nowadays.
I'm getting to old to worry for myself, but for folk like this chap, could we share your knowledge of what's available in your area?
Ta in advance.

There's a bit happening in my area of SW London. Twickfolk have been in Twickenham for years, and they do booked acts as well as the odd open mic session. My mate Ben runs a number of sessions in the area too, but those are all open mics so I'm not sure how that would suit someone who's semi-pro. Further afield there's the club in Grayshott (south of Guildford) which I know is up and running... so it's not all dead!
And this makes me think that I need to get my ass in gear, pack up the National, and get out and start playing again!

Yes, Grayshott Folk Club is very much alive and kicking. I recently saw Steve Wickham (Waterboys) plaqy there. It is a great venue in a lovely village. It is run by Des O'Byrne. It tends to be concerts rather than open mikes. www.grayshottfolkclub.co.uk/

We restarted our acoustic music club last June and have been running every month except November (when we both had Covid ). Bit of a schlep from Sussex mind...
