Only in Brexit Britain could the idea of buying something you don't want at a price you can't afford because you can no longer buy the thing you do want at the price you can afford be thought of as a win.
Yay.

All is not lost! This is a guitar made for me by the marvellous RosieTGC . All English timber: bog oak, red cedar, yew, ash, English oak, elm burr. Robson tuners (now replaced). Yes, pickup is a K&K. Nevertheless, in my real life, we import stuff from the USA, Europe, and Japan every day. The hiccups caused by Brexit have been resolved, with everyone getting used to the paperwork, and now it's a normal process (albeit with added cost). Yes, the 1-2-1, B2C stuff has become tricky, but business transactions endure. Not that I disagree with you about Brexit, but that's a conversation for another time. Peter Nice one Peter Not guitar related but I suppose on topic I bought this a couple of weeks ago and one of the reasons was albeit a Japanese company it was designed, engineered and manufactured in the UK. But more importantly can I asked why you changed the Robson tuners. I thought they were supposed to be the bees knees? They certainly look excellent Phil

That great Phil. Now I've seen your new car being irritated by not being able to buy the guitar I saw seems petty and mean-spirited.

Phil and Bororygmus, we certainly do, but…..I don’t think many parts of your guitars actually originate from the uk. I know for a fact that Brook get a lot of their wood from European suppliers (such as Madinter in Spain) apart of course from the lovely local woods they often use (cherry, yew, walnut amongst others). However, European spruce? Adirondack spruce? Ebony? All is not lost! This is a guitar made for me by the marvellous RosieTGC . All English timber: bog oak, red cedar, yew, ash, English oak, elm burr. I would so love to own one of Rosie’s guitars. Down here where I live there is a local luthier who is trying to build a guitar made from New Forest timbres. Not sure it’s been completed yet, but there are some very nice local woods in his store. Why did you get rid of the Rodgers tuners? I thought they were the rolls Royce of tuners? Robbie

What is the local guy's name? We should promote his work on here (assuming he wants commissions).
The *Robson* tuners were changed out by Rosie. I don't think Robson Tuners or Robson Guitars exists any more, although a business called C9 or Cloud 9 does, making electric guitars.

He was at college with Alex Bishop (who makes very fine guitars, including gypsy jazz style) and Will Howson who makes banjos. This is his website. I know he is near completion of a set of ukuleles in New Forest wood: aspotterinstruments.com/

I enquired with Fellowship of Acoustics many months ago about a trade, they are no longer interested in buying or selling to any UK resident. Hi, I was rather disturbed by this so I emailed TFOA this mornig ad asked them. I got a fulsome response very quickly.
They are still happy to sell to UK buyers. They deduct 21% (Dutch VAT) but upon receipt (but before delivery the shipper would contact you to pay UK VAT, maybe some Excise duty plus a handling charge.
This is effectively the same as buying from the USA, which I've done three times.
They prefer not to buy in used instruments as they would need to pay VAT etc., increasing the cost to them which makes the price to you the seller seemingly unreasonable
Most instruments that I've sold on ebay, and a fair few were sold to EU countries with no issues.
Now, to sell used into the EU, all of your instruments have effectively lost about 25-30% in value, leaving only UK buyers or UK trade in as options.
Incidentally, man US dealers now refuse to deal with the UK due to our new VAT laws.
That is what we voted for ... apparently.

I didn’t ….. and surely TFOA can reclaim the VAT in the guitars they import and then recharge when they sell? When importing here it’s purchase price plus shipping to which duty is applied and then VAT on that total. Often there’s a handing fee involved with VAT on that fee as well.

One piece of pleasant news.....I recently contacted Thomann in Holland (or is it Germany?) who I have used occasionally to buy bits and pieces over the years. They are a huge enterprise and have an extensive range of music gear. Like everyone else I had stopped even thinking about buying from Europe, or anywhere else outside the UK, but noticed that Thomann has a slightly ambiguous message on their website about selling to the UK for prices which included all duty and taxes and, in most cases, delivery. I gave them a call and they confirmed that they had lost so much business from the UK as a result of Brexit they decided to continue offering the same prices but with everything included. This is actually better than it was before Brexit as they had a standard shipping charge which you had to pay on everything. So.....now that one large European store has concluded they need business from the UK maybe others will follow, or already have followed! Certainly a good haggling position if you are dealing with another store in Europe?

Anyone come across an “Oven Ready” guitar? No but seen some that would be better used as firewood. Does that count?

Anyone come across an “Oven Ready” guitar? Ahhh that old chestnut which is the term the buffoon Johnson used for the withdrawal agreement that people and opposition politicians/commentators like to say referred to the trade agreement I bought a camera from Holland in November 2021 with no problems whatsoever. Just did it on line and got it a week or so later. Not sure why guitars or guitar related stuff should be any different but clearly there are some problems with what people on here have said which is strange and disappointing Phil
