Identical guitars - same manufacturer and model but one with pickup and preamp and one without.
(yamaha fs5 /fsx 5 in this case but there are plenty of others).
I'm always inclined to go for the one without - I have an LR Baggs soundhole pickup if I need it - but I'd be interested to hear other views.

Without the pickup because I don’t have a need to plug an acoustic guitar into an amplifier.

Without - and I'd put K&K minis in it to match my other instruments.

Without. I've no need to plug my instruments in for my audience of the goldfish (though he's better at remembering lyrics)

With. Were I to ever buy another guitar it would need to be gig ready, and I once bought an expensive soundhole pickup and it were horrible.

Seymour Duncan Woody. Way too toppy for me and not "woody" at all.

To my ears it reproduces the sound really well. And the passive one doesn't need a full install, you can just pop it in and out )as long as you don't mind a cable dangling down the front of your guitar while you play).

What's the reason for that Chris? I don't have any need for one (although I do think that at some point in the future I might try playing some open mics or something) but you play out. Do you use a mic or a removeable soundhole pickup or do you have a guitar that you keep for performing?

You’re stuck with whatever is installed. I was a fan of Taylor guitars until everything they made became ‘CE’ cutaway with, initially, a Fishman Prefix system installed, followed by their own systems. Much better to have a choice over what to fit and the preamp. They can be changed later if necessary.

Without. If I needed to amp it I'd put in my Baggs m80 with the cable dangling out the front.

Without the pickup is my preference if possible.
But if I'd had the choice of a Vintage Giltrap VE2000GG without a pickup I wouldn't have gone for it. Because the model has a combined internal microphone and piezo pickup system which manages to create a good attempt at the real guitars sound. Unusual for a factory installed pickup. But it's an unusually good guitar generally.

It would depend on the pickup, but probably without as I'd usually want to change the pickup to something more to my liking anyhow
