Is it me (or my retailer) or have string prices really jumped up recently?

Is it me (or my retailer) or have string prices really jumped up recently? Yep. String prices have risen a lot.

Like most things I'm afraid String prices have increased. And once prices rise they don't tend to drop very much if at all. Welcome to 2022, I guess.

I can’t do the maths properly, but they seem to be about a third more expensive than they were at the end of last year. I might have to start boiling them again.

I used to boil strings brings back teenage memories. My best teenage memories weren’t about boiling strings

This does not affect me What renders you immune to price hikes? Lottery win? Own string factory?

This does not affect me What renders you immune to price hikes? Lottery win? Own string factory? The last time leoroberts changed his strings was in the first summer of love. I'm reliably informed the next one will be on the centenary

I keep a price note on Amazon next to the strings I buy and the types I use have gone up around 25% in the last year or so. You do wonder if someone is profiteering out of the current global situation?

I buy my strings from amazon and/or Ebay
Martin MA550T x 3 - £47.71 AM and 340 Ebay. Dadd EJ17 x 3 £27.20 AM, £28.95 Ebay
I used to but Dadd ten packs but stopped when they reduced he quality of the ten pack boxes which ruined the silver sealed envelopes. Thanks for making me check my string bank (an airtight "Really Useful" CD box.
I currently have: 6 x EJ17, and 4 x MA550T for the dreads, Jumbo etc. 3 x EJ16 and 5 x MA540T for the 000,00,00, and 0. 2x EJ37 and 4 (?) M190s for 2 x 12 strings. 4x Reso sets (various) 2 x Dadd NB for archtops, and only one set for mando.
I used to change flat tops every 2 months but now its every 4 months. The Martin "T" strings last well. The Dadd NBs last forever but they don't seem right on flat tops, and I can't remember the last time I had an opportunity to play the Dobro or the Mando.
I'm OK for now.

I have about 600 sets of strings so I guess it’s not going to be an issue for a while. The newer bulk 25 set boxes from D’Addario are good because they stay airtight. I was paying £104 for these but they’re now over £140 or were the last time I looked. Still under £6 a set.

The thing is, I’ve always used Strings Direct because I want to support smaller retailers. But I had a look on Uncle Bezos’ Cornucopia of Wonderness (Amazon) and he’s about £3 a set cheaper. Oh, and because I use EJ24’s I get humped because they don’t come in bulk packs. I guess that the string mines must be in the zone of conflict, hence the rise. Christ, I’m moaning a lot! Whilst I’m at it, Lancashire Farms Yogurt has gone up 80 pence!

String prices here in the EU are stable. Maybe 5 to 10% up, but not as a rule. Must be a U.K. phenomenon.
