I’m struggling to find a replacement leather ( real proper bovine skin as opposed to reloused faux plastic) handle for a guitar case I want to refurbish. I’ve had this case well over fifty years and it looked pretty ancient and in need of repair when I got it and the repairs I did could have been better done. However the inside of the case is absolutely glorious which is more than be said for the first Hiscox case I bought 25 years ago. The lining of which has detached its self and looks a real mess. Hiscox say there’s no remedy. Anyway I’ve decided to refurb the old guitar case and bring it back to use. I appreciate the project case wouldn’t stand the weight of a baby elephant but neither would I and that’s not a situation I’ve ever been in. The case would be relatively light easy to carry quite recognisable particularly if I go for a colour change and give me more choices over what I bring to the next forum meet!

I had seen those but as you say rather pricey. I don’t know of any leather workers, I would prefer to go down that option as the original handle is sound apart from the bits that go through the D rings! I did wonder whether I could fashion some brass ferrules to go on the strap ends but I’ve yet to come up with an elegant solution

Have you got a picture of the existing one? I quick Google for “Leathe suitcase handle” gave lots of potential items

I almost got into this a few years ago - still got the tools. Local leather workers are around. Down here they consist of, mostly, people who make bags, or who make saddles and general horsey stuff. Have you tried this site: www.tannerbates.co.uk/collections/leather-pannelsThey used to do weekend courses so you could make their own - there may be someone similar near you. There's usually a leatherworker who makes things for tourists around - whereabouts are you? There used to be a uk forum but I've just looked and can't find it. My bet is, that if you start asking then someone will know someone. Apologies if you've already tried these options. It depends on what kind of leather you want as well - it can be very expensive. Etsy may be worth a try.

+1 for using a local saddler or leathersmith, usually found attached or supplying to equestrian centres.. I've had a complete new custom strap made for a golf bag & a handle for a leather suitcase for not a lot of bucks...worth searching out....

The handle on my Calton is falling apart, and I looked into a replacement but in the end went with the cheap option - a short leather strap used to attach traditional wicker bicycle baskets to the handlebars. About £8/pair IIRC, decent leather with a brass buckle, and it does the job well.

There's a very ancient saddlery in Darwen that might do other types of leather work. www.darwensaddlers.co.uk/You could try giving them a ring on 01254 702282

What about looking in Charity shops for redundant Suitcases or Briefcases with decent handles?
