I know it's not acoustic, but David McWilliams was a very good songwriter and acoustic musician. This was his best known song and my own personal favourite of all of the songs of the 60s. It is rumoured that he was David Bowie's favourite songwriter. Interestingly this only reached 51 in the UK charts but made 1 in France and 2 in Belgium, go figure!
When this was released we had a tramp living close to us in an shed at a local coal yard, every six months or so the police would pick him up and the next day he would reappear, washed of all the coal dust and in new clothes. Local people became quite attached to him and left him food. I always thought of him as Pearly Spencer.

I'd never heard this song before colins, thanks... very original. You may have seen the version below, by Mandy Bingham, who I believe is David McWilliams daughter.

I only knew the Marc Almond version before. Great stuff.
