My daughter has taken up the banjo. She is married, so the risks of being a social pariah are somewhat mitigated. I have loaned her one of my banjos.
She is inspired by artists like The (Dixie) Chicks, so leaning more towards country and bluegrass, rather than folk or celtic. She lives near Derby and has had 12 weeks or so of face-to-face lessons, and is enjoying the learning and playing. However, her teacher is both a slob and not entirely encouraging. He may be the only banjo teacher in Derby (in which case I hope he's not a member of this forum...).
So we are looking for either a good teacher near Derby, or recommendations for an online teacher, or where to look...
TIA, Peter

You may have ruled this out, or already looked at these, but if you want to go the online route you could try Bill Evans on PegheadNation or Alison Brown on ArtistWorks. Free sample Lesson from PegheadNation: Wagon Wheel

My friend learns banjo online with Ed Hicks. I did a few group classes taught by Ed in-person at Cecil Sharp House. A good teacher and a nice chap. His speciality is clawhammer. But I know he plays very different styles himself, including Dixieland jazz, so I imagine he's not averse to teaching a student anything they want to learn. edhicksbanjo.com/
