I saw Clive Carroll and trusty sidekick Dariush Kanani at The Stables in Wavendon, Milton Keynes on Friday night – on their John Renbourn tour. It was the small room at The Stables, so about 60 in the audience? Sound was good, and Clive played his Renbourn Bown, his new Bown, and the rather splendid baritone you can also see in the picture. Dariush (Daz?) played Bert Jansch’s Yamaha LL-11E guitar, and another Yamaha, I think. Very accomplished playing, as you would expect. Clive sold quite a few of the new CDs – which I think must be necessary for the economics of the tour. I prefer Clive playing solo, at the gig and on the CD, as I think he is so clever that he can overcomplicate things. Peter

I saw him the next night at Grappenhall Cricket Club. It should have been at Appleton Thorn which is a better venue but was double booked with a beer festival . Great show and I have to say I enjoyed it all solo and as a duo. He played his new Brown and his baritone and Dariush played his trusty Martin OM28. The sound was good but I preferred it last time I saw him at Bury Met last year when he didn't plug-in using mics only. Phil
