... I think he's said he'll be keeping about 20 of them that are in regular use...

I hope he gets his wish and the guitars do go to people who will play them, but looking at the prices I'm guessing that at least a few will end up in display cases.

The guide price for the acoustics are actually normal prices for those guitars. I’m sure the fact they’re his guitars means the prices will go way beyond guide…..

There’s currently one of his signature Martins on eBay at £10k, several thousands more than the estimate on his personal guitar…

I was quite surprised to read this, Mark Knopfler is one of my all time favourite guitarists (if not my favourite) and his guitars seems so personal and intrinsically link to who he is as a player. But in the last few years it’s clear he’s stepping away from touring and seems to be entering a retirement phase. His playing on the last tour wasn’t quite up there with previous years and I suspect he will still make records but won’t tour anymore. It feels sad in some ways, but then when he speaks in the video linked above it seems he is at peace with his decision and selling his guitar collection is part of that. His vintage Les Paul’s are particularly lovely. The famous National from the brothers in arms cover doesn’t appear to be for sale. I’m sure lots of money will be raised for charity, which is great. And I’m sure those Les Paul’s won’t get played like they have been when in MK’s hands.

I recall from a TV interview a few years ago that he also has a stunning Monteleone archtop. I can't see anything on the auction site about that one either, so maybe he'd decided it's a keeper.

[/quote] I think that was named after his daughter so it might have more personal value!
