Gypsy Jazz on a Telecaster....
It's a long story, but essentially I bought this Tokai Telecaster back in 1984/5 as a back-up to my 79 Strat. I still have the Strat and, were I to ever play in a proper band again, it would still be my main guitar. Meanwhile, I was always happy with this beautiful pink paisley Telecaster, too, but over the years the frets got so low that I bought another Telecaster as my back-up guitar and this Tokai ended up at the back of the cupboard. Anyway, I've just had the Tokai re-fretted, a new nut, and a set-up and now it plays as sweet as it ever did. The luthier remarked on how nice this Tokai was, and how "the truss rod worked well once we removed and greased the threads and contact faces of the adjuster nut. The board surface was perfectly 'true'....nice to see on something of this age." This was one of the "lawsuit era" copies. All in all, if ever I need something other than an acoustic, I'm now set-up to continue life with what was almost my first two electrics (*) to the end of my days :-)
(*) I had a cheap Arbiter Les Paul copy before the Strat.
Alas, I haven't been playing much electric so for demo purposes I've had to choose an acoustic song played electrically...
Cheers D

Really nice! Love the run that starts around 0.32 ish - lovely to listen to and fun to watch! A Tele seems to work for most things, and you certainly made it work for this. Keith

Yes, GJ does sound really good on a Tele. Plenty of twang and vibrato. Love the paisley Tele. It always reminds me of the short lived, psychedelic era, in the latter 1960s. Japanese Tokais often outstripped the Fenders and Gibsons, they copied.

That's a first for me, hearing gypsy jazz on a tele. Seems there is nothing a tele cannot do. Well played sir.
