I’ve been a fan of Ms Giddens for many years. She is a regular visitor to Scotland and I rarely miss her CONCERTS. Usually we are treated to Americana and gospel styles; music that affords Rhiannon opportunities to use that extraordinary voice of hers. This CONCERT was rather different. Her band consisted of Dirk Powell ( Cajun accordion, keyboards, electric guitar telecaster, Gibson acoustic guitar and fiddle), Niwel Tsumbu, a Congolese chap on various guitars, a statement that completely undersells his talents and performance, Attis Clopton on percussion, ( yeah me neither and had to google him) superb drummer, Francesco Turrisi, a jazz keyboard player and a guy on basses, double and electric, whose name I did not catch. All in all a very eclectic group and therefore so was the music. Jazz, soul, Cajun, funk and gospel. Utterly superb. Not, I must say, to everyone’s taste and there were a few seats that were empty after the intermission. I bumped into a friend who said that he wasn’t sure about all this electric stuff. It wasn’t quite on the scale of Dylan’s 65 Newport Festival performance but many were not happy.
Those who stayed were treated to an equally superb second set culminating in Roberta Tharpe’s “ Up Above My Head” that had the joint rocking. If you like a wide variety of music styles, and some of the songs had a blend of several, then, like me you were a happy camper. She, of course, can sing anything. A friend kindly gave Mrs doc and me a lift home so there were/was no chips. c/f Friday lunchtime thread.
In Glasgow there is a Royal Concert Hall; not a Royal gig Hall. Mozart wrote piano concertos and not Piano gigos. Just saying.

A friend kindly gave Mrs doc and me a lift home so there were/was no chips. That's good, otherwise you might have had to take your gig home. Peter

I admire her eclecticism. I first saw her with the Carolina Chocolate Drops. She has spread her wings a lot since then. She is pretty uncompromising too. I'm glad you had a good time.
