I was corresponding with scripsit (Kym) recently about his Spira guitar made in Victoria, Australia (not too far from Melbourne). We got around to discussing an Australian folk singer/guitarist called David Ross Macdonald who also used to be the drummer for a band called the Waifs. I own all of David's CD's including an interesting one with instrumental pieces all played on different guitars built by Australian luthiers (it's called Southern Crossing).
I did a bit of a google search and found some great vids he shot in a park not far from where I grew up in Sydney... I used to walk around here sometimes and was even known to roll the arm over in the nets down on the Trumper Park Oval. Here's a link to a couple of these vids... the first one really grabbed me... seeing the young boy checking out David totally unselfconsciously, hearing the Kookaburra laughing in the background, and listening to the music played in a park on a beautiful sunny day. I think David is a great talent. Hope you enjoy this...

Enjoyed those v much marcus, especially the lovely, lazy vocal - thanks! Keith

Glad you enjoyed them Keith. The vocals are indeed very relaxed in these videos. Not quite so chilled on his CDs but definitely in the same vein. Check out "Knuckled Brass and Bone" if you are interested to hear more of his tunes... you can get a sample listen here Cheers, marcus

I'd like to back up Marcus' point about the excellence of the album 'Southern Crossing', which has some very good guitar playing and lovely tunes.
David Ross MacDonald is an interesting character, who seems to have taken literally to a life on the road. The beaten up old Gibson is intriguing, too.

I saw David open for Kelly Joe Phelps at the basement in Sydney a few years back. Knuckled Brass and Bone is a great CD.
