I often wish I was a stick with what I've got man. But I'm just not.
It was acousics that got me hooked onto GAS but then it was electrics and finally my main instrument, bass. I just love gear and long may it be so.

I've gone through lots of gear, generally it's been driven by changes in what I'm up to musically.
Personally I need to spend real time with an instrument before knowing if it's right for me or not and usually the only way to do that is buy and take the risk or a loss if I have to sell, I've never found trying things in a shop environment very good for forming an opinion beyond good, bad or OK.

This is exactly how I feel too. It can take six months or more to figure out if a guitar is for me. Buying used is something I have tried to do in the past so as not to take a big hit if the guitar gets sold, but often the models I want aren't readily available in the UK. I can't count how many Martins I have been through in the last 6 years before "The One" found me.

In 32 years of playing i've only owned 5 six string acoustics and only sold 2. I've had 2 electrics - sold one, gave the other away. Thinking of trying to shift an acoustic that I don't play much to fund a mando upgrade. I don't really get the GAS thing that bad.

I've been a bit of both - electricwise I've been through 8 in the 14 years I've been playing, but now I only have one and I imagine I will be keeping this one for the foreseeable future (if I keep my electric gear that is, still umming and ahhing about selling it all off).
On the acoustic front I've had 5 since I started concentrating on acoustic 6 years ago - Martin 000x1, Martin OM28v, Gibson J45TV, Martin 00015sm and Fylde Alexander. I've ahd the OM28v the longest and now only have that and the Fylde.
I think I tend to have periods of searching for something which involve a little chopping and changing, then, when I find what I'm after, I tend to stick with it...

Played a really nice Faith mini jumbo yesterday. I think I might be developing a bit of GAS for that, but it might just be indigestion..

I find that there are a core few guitars that I wouldn't* part with then around that core other guitars which come and go. Some try to break into the core and a few succeed.
Thing is that there some great guitars out their by some great luthiers but they also need to fit with me and have that bit of magic to stay in the core.
*footnote - sometimes you have to give something up to get something (unless you have unlimited funds) and if an opportunity for something great comes along then sometimes it has to be funded.
separate discussion point on guitars that people have traded/given up/lost and really regret doing so?
