While playing an old song:-"Singing the Blues" it's three chords,F,Bb,C7, coming on to that C7 chord, even after years of doing it,sometimes trips me up.

Any barre chords, especially if it's a song that's all barre chords

Any barre chords, especially if it's a song that's all barre chords Ditto. Tried for 30 years; my stiff fingers and wrists just won't do them so I have developed as many cheats as I can.

I can sorta do them, but it gives me a really sore hand if they are all through a song. I use the blues-style thumb-over method whenever I can get away with it.

Bb ... every time ... when I can get away with it I'll play it as an F shape on the 6th fret and, when I can't, I try and just fret the strings that I'm going to play

Barre chords are the very reason I now play in alternate tunings! Lets be specific- full barre chords. Don't see the point of them myself- you rarely (if ever) see a Jazz guitarist play them, because there are always better ways to play the harmonies without having to double roots and fifths, which is what you are doing with barre chords.

I agree with Robbie either switch to jazz (BbM7 or Bb13 are much easier to grab than plain Bb). If you must play chords based on the unembellished major triad, consider open or altered tunings.

Chords are an unneccessary complication, just play the notes you need Slightly facetious of me, but I have to say I think very little about chords when I play the guitar, playing in open tunings helps with that (a lot!) of course. I think I just tend to grab the notes I need when I'm working on something, and I certainly use a bit of chord theory when making those decisions, but its a rarity when I actually play a "full chord" of any type. Having said that, there are lots of limitations to my playing so maybe I should work harder at them PS If I had to pick one, it would be the Bb barre shape, never like playing that one.

I am finding that the `long A` causes problems for me as i sometimes get a pain in my wrist when stretching my pinky. My short scale 12 fret Taw should be be a great help.

I'm lucky in that I have really rigid fingers, so I didn't have any trouble playing chords - though they're useless for some right hand styles like clawhammer.
I'm with Robbie on using triads, though I tended to overfinger and use four and five string versions of chords when comping because they gave my pick or right hand fingers somewhere else to go if I made a mistake or wanted to add extra colour.
I did still use barre chords a lot though. There's something about their fullness and "squareness" that suits arranging some material like classic rags, and I often improvised single note lines based on their shapes. There's also a strong legacy attached to them. For example, a lot of Merle Travis and Chet Atkins material actually depends on them - and there's nothing quite like that muscular twitch from the open string A to C#min in Help!
