Here's a question I hope someone will be able to help me with. I've got a gig on Dec 20th so obviously will need to do something Chrismassy ! In the audience will be people who love Christmas songs...........and those that don't. I thought it would be a good idea to get them to sing partner songs ie two different songs sung simultaneously one a Christmas song and obviously the other not. For this to work they would need to be fairly well known songs, there won't be time for teaching melodies etc, I quite like Silent Night so a non Christmas song that fits with that would be good, or any other suggestions would be appreciated.........thank you in advance x

Joanne,
Nice idea. Perhaps S&G's "The Sound of Silence" and "Silent Night" might work.

Kirst McColl and The Pogues , the bells are Ringing out (that's not the title I can't remember it but I'm sure you know the one I mean) its a Christmas favourite even for folk who don't like Festive songs .

Joanne, are you wanting the two songs to be sung at the same time or am I getting the wrong end of the stick here?

Silent Night in Gaelic sounds good, I have the Enya version on CD .... here is the original Gaelic translation: Oíche Chiúin Traditional, Irish Gaelic Oíche Chiúin Oíche chiúin, oíche Mhic Dé, Cách 'na suan dís araon. Dís is dílse 'faire le spéis Naíon beag, leanbh ceansa 'gus caomh. Críost, 'na chodladh go sámh. Críost, 'na chodladh go sámh. Oíche chiúin, oíche Mhic Dé, Aoirí ar dtús chuala 'n scéal. Allelúia aingeal ag glaoch. Cantain suairc i ngar is i gcéin. Críost an Slánaitheoir Féin. Críost an Slánaitheoir Féin. Silent night, night of God's son, Everyone is asleep, the pair together. The most faithful pair, watching with hope A little baby, a mild and gentle child. Christ, calmly asleep. Christ, calmly asleep. Silent night, night of God's son, Shepherds were first to hear the tale. The angels crying out Alleluia. Lovely chanting near and far. Christ, the saviour himself. Christ, the saviour himself. ... a bit different from the usual one, but sounds good anyway. By the way, as I am not fluent in Gaelic, the link is Silent Night in Gaelic

As I'm sure someone else will point out (though why should they seeing as how I now have) the ORIGINAL original Silent Night was written in German and was the first Christmas Carol intentionally written to be played on a geetar....

I don't want to confuse anyone but there are a lot of references to S & G and Silent night in this thread. They did a version on PSR&T of this entitled 7 o clock news silent night which still give me goosebumps. Just read todays news over the song, Job Done.

Thanks everyone for trying and yes stringdriventhing it is two songs sung simultaneously I'm looking for like Michael finnigan and this old man which kids do. But I want a Christmas song and a non christmas song that can be sung simultaneously by the audience so not to be rude nothing too complicated. davewhite and andrewjw I'll investigate your suggestions as for Gaelic windminstrel .......there's alcohol involved that's probably what it will end up sounding like

Also chorus/verse/chorus of "Batchelor Boy" fits with two verses of "Silent Night".
