I'd like to be part of this, please, Dave. You look well acquainted with Dave's mandolin here, Paul

Me, me, me .... Is this a mandolin similar to the one you brought to HB3, Dave? It seemed to have a little more room for the chubby-fingered amongst us Yes - it will be the same spec as that one with longer scale length and wider nut/string spacing. My wife bought a cheapo Mando years ago and never really took it up . Ive picked it up a few times and although i quite like it i couldnt get used to the extremely thin nut width . It wouldnt help that its not very good either . I would stick my name down but im trying to concentrate my efforts on being a better guitarist first , but an excellent generous offer Dave and if its anything as good looking as your latest guitar build (fat boy) it should receive great reviews . I look forward to hearing / seeing it .

Derek, here's a couple of videos of one of Dave's mandolins - the Road Trip one will be v similar to this. Forum member Joe (MikeFloorstand) with an excellent solo piece And, from last years Forum Meeting in Halifax, here's Forum member Mark (Thomson)and me having a bit of a jam on a Defaoite guitar and mandolin (again, similar to the proposed Road Trip one). I can confirm that the wider nut makes life a lot easier!. Also there is a wider string spacing at the bridge, which I like v much too. The scale length is slightly longer than many mandolins, and this helps get the fingers in without unduly increasing stretches up the f'board. Really looking gforward to this Road Trip for the chance to experience one of Dave's mandolins for more than just a few minutes casual plinky plonky. Keith

Derek, Thanks - there's still time to change your mind though any it may well help your guitar playing Keith - thanks for those happy reminders of HB3 Just to show that you can have lots of fun on a mandolin and still stay legal here's my version of "Vincent Black Lightning 1952".

I'm in, please! Haven't played mandolin for a while but I would really, really look forward to hearing what a De Faoite mando sounds and plays like.

Hi Dave
Very tempting but I will pass on this one - I would essentially be learning how to play mandolin on this although I am used to picking up various stringthings and finding a way with them. Good luck

Leon - thanks.
I've had a go at arranging the logistics and have decided that a three week period with each participant will work well - the extra week allows for more flexible handover arrangements or shipping CBT. So here's the proposed route:
5th-25th May Joe (Mike Floorstand) 26th May - 15th June Keith (OCarolan) 16th June - 6th July JackOrion 7th-27th July Andrew (Andrewjw) 28th July - 17th August Paul (Scorpiodog) 18th August - 7th September Leo (leoroberts) 8th - 27th September Lynn (Wild Violet) 27-29th September (HB4/ASBO1) Bernd (bernd) 30th September - 19th October Martin (Martin) 20th October - 16th November Sam (Sam)
Can participants please confirm by replying to this thread if these dates are OK or not. Lynn can you pm me your e-mail address, address and contact telephone number please?

Dave, that works for me and I get a day out in Lincoln to hand it over to WV - I love that city and don't need an excuse to visit but you've given me a great reason:)

Three weeks!!! I can play my entire mandolin repertoire in about 3 minutes!!! Great, Dave, looking forward to it immensely. And a trip to Liverpool to hand it to Leo. Hmmm.
