Just wondering what people are using for strumming...
A plastic plectrum like a Martin or the Nylon type the Dunlop produce..
Thickness
material
brand
I currently use a Martin 46mm for strumming, but im thinking would the nylon type with an even thinner material be better...
Thoughts....!!

Dunlop Nylon black 1mm though will go up to 1.4mm for strumming.
Since I've been flatpicking I've also been using a Papas pick, I think it's a .9mm made out of imitation tortoise shell. I really like it for strumming too.
Thinner picks just sound weak to me, and I can't get good bass runs etc. while using one.

Dunlop nylon grey .60mm for me on everything, i dont like thicker plecs because of the sound they seem to make on my strings.

For pure strumming a .73 Dunlop, but I much prefer a heavier pick in general. I have been using the red jazz II picks, but they sound a bit dead so now I cut down the larger pics to that size.

Whichever one I find. I've got thin ones and thick ones.

Just as I thought the nylon Dunlop seem to get the thumbs up..
I have been using the Martin ones as earlier stated but they are plastic and give off a very different sound..
I did try the nylon at my Fathers the other day and quite liked the sound..
I use a thin 40-50 mm.
I use a thin one for strumming firstly its easier for strumming secondly I don't do a whole lot if picking with a pick, use my hands.
Secondly thin helps keep the volume down when kiddies are in bed.....

Recently started using Fred Kelly delrin picks, on the back of how much I have enjoyed the Fred Kelly delrin slick pick thumbpicks. I've seen it said that delrin gives a sound closer to that of fingers than plastic does, and I'd agree that it has lived up to that claim. Trust me to use a type of pick I can only get from a limited number of on-line stores. I like to have a range of different thicknesses as some instruments respond better to thinner or to thicker picks - also depends on the style of the song which sounds best of course. Mark

Thanks for the input. I am going to pick some Dunlop nylon type and have a blast of them. The Martin I use now are plastic, and I want to hear a slightly different tone.
Its amazing how much you change the tone of guitar by plectrum material...

Great topic, Kev. I use Dunlop Nylon Grey - 0.60mm plectrums - for strumming and picking.

Dunlop orange ones - 0.6mm I think - for years. However, I ordered some yellow and green chappies - 0.7 and 0.8mm respectively - and I'm liking (gradually) the yellow, slightly heavier one.
Who'd have thought...

I called to the music store on Saturday purely to pick up some new plecs. I played a few guitars and brought mine in for them to check something over for me, and came home and totally forgot to get the plecs.... DOH...!!!!
Anyway i found some nylon plecs i had in the draw, one in particular was orange i think it was 0.6 or 0.7 mm it says fender on what ever that means. It really gave my guitar a warmer tone compared to the plastic martin plecs i had been using, easier to hold too...
