hi I've been offered at wood tw45hb 4 yrs old or so for £600. I am looking for a good electro with good sound unplugged, all tone woods and this seems close to my need for the money I have. any views?

Hello paulxb, and welcome to the forum. Do you like the sound/feel of this guitar? If you can't answer that with resounding affirmatives then walk away. If you really do like the guitar, having played it for some time (plugged and unplugged) then it's a possibility, though the price is a little on the high side I reckon. www.wembleymusiccentre.com/Catalogue/Guitar-Centre/Acoustic-Guitars/Tanglewood-Acoustic-Guitars/Electro-Acoustic/Tanglewood-Heritage-TW45HB-Super-Folk---Ex-Display-TW45HBwww.amazon.co.uk/Tanglewood-Heritage-TW45HB-natural-gloss/dp/B0042ADOJIOnly you can say whether it's worth the asking price or not, but even in perfect condition and with a case I'd think £500 or so to be more realistic, but then I'm mean! There's a lot of competition at around the £600 mark, so, if you haven't already done so, I'd have a good look around and play lots before leaping in on anything. Tanglewoods, by and large, do give fair value for money though. Hope this is helpful. Enjoy the Forum - have a look around - and do let us know what you decide to do in the end. Keith

I have a Tanglewood TW45 NSB. TW45 NSB at Omega Not quite the same as it's not "Heritage" line like the one you mention, but I can confirm the NSB is a good guitar. I'd agree with Keith that £600 sounds a bit pricey for used. Looks like soundsgreatmusic.com have a new one at £600 just now, though that's a lot cheaper than others showing up in a search - makes you wonder what's wrong with it! I'm not convinced that the electro side of my TW45 is particularly good - the sort of bog standard stock electrics in acoustic guitars that has a generic amplified sound rather than a real recreation of the acoustic sound - but I think the one in the Heritage guise is a better system ... maybe. I'd also agree with Keiths view that Tanglewood generally give decent value for money. But as always, the crux is whether it sounds good to you and whether it feels good to play. If either of those two boxes aren't ticked then it's not such a good choice. Mark

that's really helpful both, thanks for taking the time to reply. I have played the guitar a fair bit in the shop and it does sound good, and is in great nick, can't see any major dings or scratches. I have played quite a few others in the price bracket none of which sound any better. Shop guy put new strings on because the olds were dead, and has since come down to 550inc polystyrene type case. I am veering his way!!! thanks again

The fact that's it's through a shop helps on the price being OK - you'll at least get a bit of a warranty and a bit more confidence that it's been checked over by someone that has good guitar knowledge. Bet that change to teh strings made a difference to the sound! Good luck with whatever you decide. Oh - and to the forum. Mark

Hi Paul, welcome and hope you enjoy your new guitar. I played a Tanglewood TWJP Java at the weekend - incredibly good guitar and well worth over three times the price. Narrow nut though, besides that it was great to play, well made and sounded sweet. Jonny

Congratulations on the new guitar, and welcome.
I have a soft spot for Tanglewood guitars as I used to work just down the road from Hobgoblin in Manchester and they stocked quite a few of them. I passed many a pleasant lunchtime noodling on a TW73.
