I've just made the purchase of this book. Has especially high reviews and I know many of you have heard Doug Youngs music and he knows his stuff in DADGAD. Looking forward to giving this book a thorough read. This is a demo of the book - Understanding DADGADChris.

This is a truly wonderful book. Having read just a few chapters I wrote my first DADGAD tune which I'm sure I've posted here before: I've just been lucky enough to pick up a gorgeous used (but you wouldn't know it) Tanglewood TW40 at a bargain price which might well become my DADGAD machine. It's got a beautiful ringing shimmering tone and the intonation is spot on - both key for DADGAD. Also based on a Doug Young arrangement is this short version of Down By The Salley Gardens played on the new guitar: soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=12892259Doug's Young's CD are well worth getting too. I'm not sure there's anyone who both plays and records an acoustic guitar so well. I'm a Doug Young fan you can tell! Cheers Derek

I'm only about 30 odd pages on but taking my time understand all the theory and developing elsewhere to have more a greater understand.
I'll be writing a review soon but so far it is a wonderful book.

Look forward to hearing your review on it in due course Chris. I could probably do with a good book on understanding DADGAD. I enjoy playing in it, but it's mainly other peoples tunes - haven't really got the hang much of any improv in that tuning compared to open G and its variants. Derek - fine sounds from your Tanglewood - they do make a good few very nice guitars for the price point they're at. That's good progress you're making with your own DADGAD tune on the video too. I can see I'm going to have to check out Doug Young too - in the last nearly 10 month since I turned to acoustic I seem to have spent a lot of time checking out players. Mark

What Doug does that is very clever is to avoid the key of D - he seems to be better at explaining than Pierre!

I love playing in D but Dadgad sounds amazing in so many other keys!
