On weds at Guitar club there is a theme of the centenary of the 1WWar.So an appropriate song is needed. I was/am going to do Eric Bogles wonderful Green Fields of France but to
be honest I do not think I can get through it without blabbing. To me it is very emotionally charged.
So I have a back up of Universal soldier and possibly Eve of Destruction but I quite like this which has a modern feel
Its a Richard Digance song and whilst I have watched the videos I can't quite see the chords he plays
Can anyone help please?
Here are the words and the video
LETTER FROM AFGHANISTAN
Hi everyone, how you doing?
Greetings from the sandy beach than never ever ends
I hope you're well and you're smiling
Just to let you know I'm safe missing all my friends
I'm thinking of the Norfolk Broads the holiday we planned
I miss the English countryside I hope you understand
Don't take me to the seaside I'm sick and tired of sand
Hi everyone, how you doing?
Please don't ask me about the weather
Sometimes it gets so hot out here I could almost go berserk
Sometimes I dream, I dream it's raining
Even though the windscreen wipers on my jeep don't work
I'm thinking of the football games I went to with you dad
All those half-time cups of tea and hot dogs that we had
From over here I tell you over there don't seem so bad
Just don't ask me about the weather.
We saw the game, we cheered for England
We heard the captain say motivation wasn't there
From over here did you hear us swearing
The greatest moment of their lives they didn't even care
Eleven men who should be proud of wearing England shirts
Eleven men who only score when it comes to skirts
A hundred grand a week Jesus Christ that really hurts
We saw the game, we cheered for England
I hear at home the flags were flying
Flying for my friend as the car went slowly past
I hear at home the flags were flying
Like the England football team they were flying at half mast
Motivation, I've had a good idea
Sling 'em on a plane and send those bastards over here
You soon get motivated when your head is filled with fear
And then one day they'll play for England
Then they'll be fit to play for England.
