Could anybody give any information on the Fylde Othello please. I am looking for the scale length nut width and bridge string spacing. Or is there a current model that the Othello replaced? Cheers Steve.

If I remember rightly the Othello was basically an Orsino (cedar/mahogany), but with darker stained b/s. Originally (early 1980s) it was a test bed for a different kind of neck joint, but soon, when this proved too awkward in production, the Othello became simply a darker Orsino. Hence 648mm scale length and probably 57mm string spacing at bridge as most Fyldes are. I have a suspicion that the nut width might have been a little narrower, at 43mm, but I may be incorrect and will check in my old catalogues tomorrow for you Steve and report back! The model was discontinued after not very long - maybe because it had become just a stained Orsino variant and Roger isn't that keen on staining wood.
Hope that helps somewhat - I guess you've seen the one on ebay at the moment...?
Keith
EDIT 21-9-14 - yup, just checked, 43mm nut, and what the catalogue refers to as "slightly wider frets".

I'll admit I'm 'watching' the ebay Othello just now too It's actually located just over an hour away from me, so I toyed with the idea of trying it out, but I'll not stand in the way of a serious forum bidder

Thanks for the reply and information once again Keith, the nut is too narrow for me. Really should buy the Fylde book then I won`t have to mither you all the time Martin, I will stand aside. In all seriousness, I was becoming quite interested but the nut width is a no no for me. I will just keep watching, it`s nice to peep around the curtains and have a nosey

... might still be worth asking the seller to measure it Steve - you never know - it might have been a custom job, or just happened to have a spare Orsino neck neck fitted to it when made. The ebay pic does make the nut look rather narrow, but it's hard to be sure.
Or maybe Martin might fancy an afternoon out with his ruler. (ie a measuring implement, not Shona!)

Don't worry, Akquarius, it's just the boys being naughty. I despair of them sometimes
