I'm reading a book called "Bristol Folk" by Mark Jones at the moment and this lad gets a mention. I'm sure many of you know of him, but I found this video and thought it might be worth sharing. It's the opening track from his album "Sad Pig Dance" back in the early 70's (as you can probably guess by his appearance!

"Sad Pig Dance" was an album I bought (2nd hand in the late 70s) purely on the basis that it was subtitled "A collection of Guitar Instrumentals". I've just bought it again on CD as I haven't had a decent record player (ever) or a record player (of any standard) for about 5 years and my vinyl collection is just gathering dust in the garage. I think "Whistling Milkman" was the first instrumental I ever heard that conjured up a mental image for me that related to the title... sadly, because it was 2nd hand, the TAB booklet that came with the original LP was missing

Good one Frank! Enjoyed hearing that again - I have Sad Pig Dance LP, but don't think I ever saw Dave on OGWT at the time -nice. The section from around 0.14 to 0.24 always reminds me of "I am the very model of a modern major general". Keith

Wow, this fella can play a bit! I'm not at all familiar with the player or tune, but I think it's excellent, and I thoroughly approve of the guitars colour scheme

I think I have all his music in one form or another and his celtic stuff is quite sublime. Regards Phil

If I'm right (and that's unlikely) he now lives in Belgium - he's into guitar building (and repair) and is still doing his pottery, I think.
He would be a worthy contributor to the O'Carolan thread - I think he did a whole raft of work based on interpretations of O'Carolan's tunes.. Can anyone confirm that?

I believe he is in Belgium, concentrating largely on the Pottery business. I've only got one album where he does Hewlett, Mawgan Magan and a stunning version of Shebeg an Shemor (excuse spelling if it's wrong)

Glad to see this here. I'd never heard of Dave Evans until I read El Mcmeen talking about him and his use of Low C tuning, so I searched and found this vid. Pretty amazing playing!
