For someone who has been a reasonably regular contributor, to this fine forum, for many a year, I've quite disgustingly, been without an acoustic guitar, for some time. I've been on the dark side for a while now. I started thinking about getting an acoustic again and looked at some very nice models. But when it came to it, I couldn't justify the outlay. I've always liked the parlour guitar and so thought of getting a couch guitar. Cheap and cheerful, if you like. Many years ago, I'd tried an Art & Lutherie Ami and had been quite impressed. So when I saw one on a shop wall, I had to have a go. Now these guitars don't go for fantastic finishing, with blemishes, under the varnish and even the sound hole is a tad off centre. The rossette is a thick peice of decorative plastic. But in the singing cowboy, small guitar, way of things, it's actually quite nice to look at. The specs are: Back & Sides: Wild Cherry Neck: Silver leaf maple Top: Cedar (Pressure Tested, Solid Top) Fingerboard & Bridge: Rosewood Finish: Satin Varnish Tusq nut & saddle by Graphtech 24.84" scale length 16" fingerboard radius 14:1 ratio tuning machines. The Ami's redeeming feature is it's sound. It's loud, with loads of ring and quite vibrant, too. OK, defintion and separation aren't great. It's a little brash and unsophisticated but suits finger and even plectrum play, quite well. At full retail, the Ami isn't a bad buy. At the fraction of that, that I paid, it was a steal.

very nice. I've never played one of the parlours but been impressed with their bigger guitars.

Nice! A&L is part of the Godin group and the Ami is exactly the same specs as my Simon & Patrick Parlour Trek but with a stain by the looks of things. Mine doesn't even have a plastic rosette, just a burnt in ring. But I got to really like it, it sounds nice, plays nicely and feels very comfortable. It's the one I automatically reach for. I hope you enjoy your Ami as much!

Welcome back to the light It still sounds nice, but it doesn't look so good these days I've tried a few Amis in shops over the years. They sound great for blues picking!

Good choice Graham and welcome back into the light! It is nice to look at too. The Parlour size is great as a couch player. I've had a lot of very enjoyable, very relaxed times, sitting on the couch with the Tanglewood parlour just noodling around on an open tuning and clearing my mind of the stresses and strains of real life. Enjoy!!!!! Mark
