I recently made a thread about reprofiling the neck on my Terry Docherty guitar, I eventually decided against this, I love the guitar, it sounds and looks great but isn't great comfort wise because of the fairly wide neck for regular play.
So I am toying with the idea of getting another good main guitar, something with a nice slim and narrow neck, sounds good, all solid wood and ideally not Asian made (I do like American made instruments, on the whole) but won't break the bank, used is certainly possible, in some cases preferred, any suggestions?, in an ideal world, under £1,000 but it depends how much I can save.

Open to different body shapes although ideally Dreadnought or 000, smaller possibly considered, ideally 1000 or under, open to different scales but a fairly narrow nut

Maybe something like a Taylor DN3?
All solid, USA made, with slim, comfortable neck.
They do seem to be discontinued, so you might need to hunt a used one down, but that could be an even better deal.

This is very subjective - and depends on how much you can spend before 'breaking the bank'. That number will be different for different people.
I'd recommend having a peek at some Guilds. The GAD models are Asian built (although the QC seems top notch, but caveat emptor and try before you buy) but other models are still made in America. Basdically, if the model number starts with a 1 - it's an Asian built guitar.
For example F50R (American built) F150R (Asian built).
I reckon most 'reasonably priced' guitars nowadays are outsourced to Asia - even from the 'big' manufacturers.
But, depending on your budget you might be able to afford a British built luthier guitar to your specification. TRy and DM one or two of the luthiers on here.

Alex,
I've got a Taylor 312 (Grand Concert sized) sitka/sapele with a Mimesis soundhole magnetic pickup (the original made by Mike Vanden that he sold the patent to Fishman) that I bought new in the mid 1990's that would be in your budget range. Robbiej had it on loan for a few years. It's a lovely sounding guitar and I'm looking for £500 to £600 for it.

You get a lot for your money with Seagull - made in Canada. Also you'd probably be able to get a really nice 2nd hand Larrivee (also Canadian) for under a grand.

.. But if it's a slim neck profile you're after I'd say look at Taylors.

If you live anywhere near the Northwest have a look at Frailers in Runcorn. Loads of second hand American made guitars within your budget.
