Sky are to be commended for following the Forum's lead in mounting such a competition. It looks very promising.
James gave an excellent audition and I wish him all the very best in the next stages.

I had a filmed audition yesterday for Sky Arts Guitar Star in Cardiff. Met some amazing guitarists, and the film crew are all really supportive. Should be a good show! soundcloud.com/nik_davies

For those who didn't see the 'final' last night and have it recorded I won't give the name of the winner (although its probably all over youtube). The right winner for me.
But, although the skills on show from all finalists were amazing and so far beyond me, I nevertheless found it difficult to actually 'enjoy' as 'music' (apart for the classical bits). I think its largely because of the genre of music played and particularly the percussive stuff which was brilliant to 'watch' but less to listen to. The fact I can't take jazz is my loss no doubt. I guess I'm just an old fuddy duddy who still likes melody and a more straightforward rhythm/style.
Overall I really enjoyed the show and agree with earlier posts that it was refreshing to see a thoughtful format with the judges not using it as a platform to enhance their own egos and no hint of hard luck stories from the contestants. Congratulations to Sky for an excellent series.

I enjoyed that a lot. A worthy winner, I think, but any one of the three would have been so. I also think they weeded out the right one from the semi final, though it must have broken the poor lad's heart to be dropped. 13! What will he be like at 20?
The whole programme was a celebration of talent and musicianship. I thought it rather well done. I just wish the other tv talent shows would take a leaf from their book. Don't suppose they will, though.
