For some reason my guitar strings seem to die very quickly, sometimes within a week of putting them on, why could this be, just because I play alot?

Could be, but more likely something to do with your body chemistry. Someone once played a guitar of mine for about five minutes and killed the strings stone dead. Best advice would be to try a variety of brands/alloys, and different makes of coated strings. You might find one set that can resist whatever it is you're doing to your current brand.

I have a friend who is banned from playing any of my guitars as he's the kiss of death to strings. Do you wash your hands before playing? If not, that might help a little.

You could try wiping the strings with FastFret and then a clean hanky both before and after you play - might help a little, but if you have string killing sweat then nothing is going to help very much Alex. As you say, you may need even to resort to coated strings! Keith

A week out of uncoated strings if you're playing a lot doesn't seem out of whack to me. That's about what I get as well. I used Elixirs exclusively now, even though they're not my favourites. Sometimes you just gotta compromise a bit. Coated is better than dead uncoated!
