Started the day by taking the Martin J40 (no Lynne you can't have it) off the wall and singing 'The Band Played Waltzing Matilda' for myself. Rather stunned to find I could remember all the words after years without singing it.
Getting sentimental as the years role by. But a great song is simply a great song and this is the day to sing it.

That's a hard one to get through without choking up.

One of my all time favourite songs.. It ranks with Steve Earl's Billy Austin for causing a lump in the thought.

Christ Stern dreadnought28 does a lovely version of that, the first one I've heard that really got to me.

Great song - agree re choking up. Here's the recording I made of it in 2009 as part of a Forum Project with several members posting their versions. soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=8213988Anyone else still got their version somewhere they could dig up and post? Keith

Keith I've got mine. It's a bit gimmicky, and I'm not sure it really works. And I wrote the last verse and chorus, but I did get Eric Bogle's permission! www.soundclick.com/player/single_player.cfm?songid=8303745&q=hiWoa — varying lyrics — a whole new dimension !!!

I missed out on this project for some reason... (I assume it was before I got involved with the forum or something) Some great versions - and your last verse is a stunner, scorpiodog.

Thanks, Leo, much appreciated. The project produced some brilliant versions as I recall. I particularly liked one by a former denizen of the forum, Rodders. My recollection is that he produced his from a words and chord sheet without actually having heard the original! It was really different and I enjoyed it.
It is a remarkably moving song.
