There's one coming in the shop tomorrow that I may buy myself (one of the perks of working in a guitar shop, first dibs on anything interesting). Its a Stonebridge D1P, cedar topped and made by Furch under a different name for the American market as far as I can tell. Can't find very much about this particular model though, it seems to be a discontinued one. If it's as good as they're cracked up to be it'll be going straight into the back of my car!

I've played a few Sonebridge's and owned a couple of Stanfords, all Furch made and they are very good guitars, IMO. Hope it's a good one, for you.

I'd think it'd be a Stanford D1P, and it'd be Cedar over Rosewood (all solid). The Furch made Stanfords are quite rare guitars, they are different to some of the Furch/Stonebridge lines in some sorts as they were more 'vintage' inspired rather than 'European' in influence. I myself have a Stanford OM in Spruce and Mahogany and it's a fine guitar. The one that I have is very lightly built and can be a little bit erratic to humidity at times (but nothing a Planet Waves Humidifier can't sort) I'd recommend trying the D1P, it could be a decent guitar.

I've played a few Stonebridges, though mostly a few years ago so not the latest models. The ones I played were well-made guitars - quite bright and punchy in sound, not really dripping with overtones but nice and responsive. My favourite was a sitka/mahogany OM that had a nice dry, bluesy sound.
Unfortunately, the OM was made in the days of Stonebridge's sick-dalmation-effect pickguards. I liked the guitar, but the pickguard was truly awful. I think (and hope!) they've stopped using them now.

Thanks for the replies. Just been doing some more research, and if the model number the customer has given me is correct then yes, it looks like it will be a Stanford. It also looks like not many of these were made by Furch before being produced in China. I'll have to wait and see what turns up in the morning and go from there I guess. Got some cash ready in my wallet just in case!

I adore Stonebridge guitars. I've played many over the last couple of years and loved them all. I finally raised the money and bought one a few months ago - D32SM (IIRC - I'm terrible with guitar names and numbers) and I couldn't be happier. I bought it mainly for flat-picking - there are several more Stonebridges I lust after for fingerpicking, but for now this one is all the guitar I need (or so I'm told...). I highly recommend them.

my father in law has a Furch built Stanford, I don't know the model but it's a dreadnought with a spruce top and mahogany back and sides. It is very D-18 like, with the added bonus of having a 1 3/4 nut. He got it very cheaply because it has a repaired crack in the side. I've tried to get him to part with it a couple of times but he just laughs at me.
