Hi
I very recently joined the forum. What a lovely welcome I got. How glad I met a man yesterday who told me about it
One of my goals is to be able to use/rent/borrow/purchase/ restore a Bozo 12 string guitar.
I am looking for someone who has one or knows someone who knows someone etc who does.
There are many reasons why I seek one, prime one being to record a cd with instrumental 12 String compositions I made throughout my life as a present to my kids. They keep bugging me but I now have an Epiphone which is great for practice and I am looking for an old 12 string Gibson for two particular tunes which is easy to find. The majority of the pieces requires a Bozo. I once had one on loan and Leo Kottke showed me on a priceless opportunity how to bring out the best in them. I don't need to own it. I am looking for an instrument I can use or perhaps even rent for a few weeks or indeed purchase/restore whatever.
Can anyone help?
Have you got one stacked away?
Do you know anyone who has?
Get in touch
Best

Can't help you with the Bozo, I'm afraid, sunshine, but I'm intrigued as to the identity of the forum's 'mystery advertiser'... any clues?

Good luck with the search, non MIJ Bozo's are a really rare beast.
If you're looking for a new commission, I recommend having a look at the guitars of Michael Propsom who used to train with Bozo and I think he braces his guitars in a similar kind of way.

.... Can you point me towards that advertiser? I can't see it..... ..I believe Leo was referring to the unnamed (mystery) person who told you about(advertised)this Forum. I'm curious as to who it might have been too! Keith (Hope you don't mind sunshine , but I think it best if I move this thread out of the build section (which is intended for guitar making projects and guitars under construction) and into the General section where you should get a wider selection of people (including non-members) reading of your search. If you'd prefer to keep it to members only then let me know and I'll move it into the Members section.)

The mystery advertiser was a lovely gentleman called Paul who is a member but I do not know his avatar. I hope he doesn't mind my naming him.
As for the Bozo, I would not mind an MIJ one. The Epiphone is for practicing purposes, the Bozo for performance and recording. I am trying to get one on loan from USA.
The MIJ models are better than their seeming 'lack' of the master's Personal touch might suggest. I am first and foremost a musician. I play a 1942 Gibson J45 which looks as if it has been in the war (probably was) but the sound is wonderful and the balance, action and attack second to no other guitar I have ever played. Now that's six string. 12 string, the best I ever held was an MIJ Bozo which had aged like Tommy Lee Jones and it was musically what I needed.
If I find one, I shall prepare a post in the Plucky Duck.

....that actually makes me wonder...is there anyone in the forum who has a 12 string Bozo? Not for sale, just in general, or knows someone who has?

I have a 12 string made by Jim Chelsvig (out of Chicago) in the style of a Bozo's western bell that I'm putting up for sale if you're still looking. It's very close to a Bozo. I'm a big Leo Kottke fan and I commissioned it as I could not find an actual Bozo available at the time. Due to arthritis pain I'm unable play it anymore. I can send some pictures if interested.
Best regards
