Just a general question out of mere curiosity, but I wondered how our members found us and then why decide to join up?
I'm sure many will have migrated from the old Acoustic Magazine forum a few years ago, but other than that, it would be interesting to know how you found this place and why you decided to stick around.

Haha, migrant, refugee, castaway or whatever from the old mag forum! Turned out very well really. Keith

Not so much a migrant but a prodigal son; I left when the previous one closed and Keith spotted my name on a post on 'another forum ' about a year later and asked if I was the same Fat Finger John (are there more of us???). Whatever, delighted I returned and makes a refreshing change from the aggro (mixed in with good stuff) on the one across the pond. FFJ

I think I found the forum with a Google search "UK Guitar Forum" back when I found I was making the switch to acoustic from the darkside of electric guitar playing. I'd found when playing electric guitar that UK based forums were a bit less combative than the US equivalents and were usually of a smaller size that made them friendlier. I had no knowledge of the old Acoustic Magazine forum as I hardly ever played acoustic back then and didn't have much interest in any acoustic playing. How times change! I didn't anticipate just how friendly this forum would be and how helpful and tolerant the members would be of me and my wittering and my attempts at music. I also didn't anticipate how useful it would be for the wealth of knowledge and experience to help guide a newcomer around the world of acoustic. I think I've just answered the question of why I've stuck around. Mark

I had just bought a steel string guitar and was trying to find out how to play it. Even though that didn't work out, I stuck around because it turned out to be such a friendly place.

Mag migrant I could never square the fact that the mag was such a slipshod inaccurate cut and paste effort and the forum full of informative even erudite items and then the mag upped its game and started publish huge chucks of forum conversations!

Another refugee who found that the grass was most definitely greener on the other side.
This Forum proves that a bunch of committed, enthusiastic, self-regulating amateurs can do a much better job that supposed professionals. With minimal input from the fearsome Forum enforcers (ignoring the invocation to always avoid alliteration) the quality of content, helpfulness, humour and courtesy of contributions here surpasses all others. Bless this ship, it's captain, officers and all who sail in it!

The only other place where I could converse to people about folk music, real ales and beards are a Morris Dancing Society. As I have little coordination of my feet, Morris Dancing was out of the question so I joined this forum.
