Anyone played both of these instruments. Abviously in the small guitar range. I have the Faith Mercury High Gloss.
I wondered how it stacks up compared to the GSM Mini.
The Faith is all solid wood. All over. The GS Mini is solid top but obviously a Taylor. The Little Martin is similar to GS mini but smaller again.
No shop close to me stocks the GS Mini to try. ..
Maybe someone here has some experience of both
Are you paying extra money for the brand Taylor and Martin for lesser quality materials?

Are you paying extra money for the brand Taylor and Martin for lesser quality materials? Sorry, I have no experience of any of these particular models but I would say you will pay more for materials of similar quality if they bear these names.

But the little Martin and gs mini by Taylor come with only solid tops with laminate back and sides.. All 3 are in the same price range..

Not sure why you are evn asking this kevmc1180. If you are happy with your Faith, then why even think about anything else? If you are not happy with it then no amount of opinion from anyone else will be of much relevance to how you might perceive these other instruments when you play them. Feel free to illuminate me if I'm missing something here! Keith

The guitars I mentioned come with inferior materials but charge similar prices, is this down to brand name ?

Brand names cost money, that's for certain.
In terms of quality, your Faith is up there, and out of the three would be my choice.
The GS Mini is supposed to be very well made with a sound that is beyond what might be expected of its size.
The Little Martin seems to be purely a travel guitar.
The only way to satisfy your curiosity I guess would be to continue to seek out a GS Mini and then compare it to your Faith. Personally, I wouldn't worry too much about it - the Faith is a great guitar.

Not the little Martin, they are tiny and boxy sounding. I've heard good things about the Martin Dreadnought Jr though, a lot of people prefer it to the GS Mini...

Haven't come across any Faith guitar owners who didn't love their guitars. I liked the few I've played too. keith

Before I bought my faith high gloss Venus I tried out several gibsons, martins, Taylor's costing twice as much as the faith and I had the budget to spend up to £1500. I chose the faith which cost half the price. Not because it was cheaper but to my ears it sounded nicer. I now also have a faith Mercury. Enjoy your guitar.

Price and name badge don't always equate to what will be a good guitar for you. As thejamsinger says it's best to end up buying the guitar that's best for you. I've come to realise for me that means the guitar that gets me playing music - no point without that. Pure tone and build quality are secondary as long as they are good, and finish and looks of little importance as long as it's not extreme like pink! Laminate back and sides is not always a bad thing - the best guitar for me that I've ever tried in the £1k to £2k range had that. The name badge will affect the price of a guitar in a big way and I'm thankful I don't seem to have a liking for the big brand names. My recent trawl for a Parlour that involved trying out a wide range of brands included bigger names like Guild and Martin and just underlined for me again how little price has to do with whether a guitar is right for me - a less than £300 Tanglewood was so far ahead of the others in making me want to play music it was no contest. The Tanglewood was also for me streets ahead of the GS Mini my wife plays (both Hog guitars), but for her the opposite applies. Which again underlines how little value personal recommendations are! Martin is right - there is a big difference in type of guitar between the GS MIni and the little Martin. My wife tried both (as did I briefly) and they were very different animals. I have seen pretty much 100% positive glowing comments about Faith on line. Sorry to buck the trend but when I had a Mercury Naked on trial recently it was one of the shortest trials ever and very disappointing - just not the guitar for me in any respect - when I played it sounded very lightweight and harsh. But I know and understand how it's just the right guitar for a lot of players - and a lot depends on how playing style and skill / abilities suits a guitar. Mark

Stick with the Mercury.
Those others won't give you the same quality, IMO.

Mark Funny Enough i agree on both parts that using a guitar that you will pick up more often is best... I found that with this current Faith Mercury as i did with the Sigma travel (little martin copy) i had before it. I put it down to the shorter scale on these guitars, suits my small hands... By the way funny enough a local shop i visited before i bought my FMHG had the Naked verson and the Scoop version top of the range one which is black high gloss anyway. The Naked sounded rough out...Really Harsh, wasnt my cup of tea, but the High gloss one had a more rounded balanced tone. I couldnt afford the top of range electric scoop one certainly not from that shop, but got a good deal on the stanard non electric High gloss online from UK. I often wonder should i got one with electronics too hence the questions about the GS Mini. At the time i was advised to go with best materials i could affford, which i did... Perhaps i can add electronics to her one day...

I would go without hesitation for the Faith — I'd want to check the width of the fingerboard though! The one I played was ridiculously narrow.
