I need to lower the action on my J40 a little with a truss road twitch. This has been left alone for 30 years and doesn't move CW. I'm told I should apply to grafite piercing lubricant and that this should do the trick.
What are they talking about? Would this work? Can I buy this in Homebase?

If the neck relief is OK then the saddle is likely what needs attention....

Moving from lights to mediums has raised the action just a tad. I think it just needs a quarter turn. It is still playable mind. But you are right, it could do with some tender loving care and attention.

Ah, gotcha. Then it would be helpful to be able to tweak a little. Have you tried gently turning tho opposite way to what you want too? This might free it if you're lucky. Don't lean on it too hard though - you don't want a snapped rod... Maybe a very careful application of a small amount of WD40 (if you can keep it off the wood)or some other kind of penetrating oil might help. Or, if you aren't already, try Newtone Masterclass low tension strings - I quite like their 13-55 set. Or just man up! Keith

I can't resist a word in praise of penetrating oil. I love it! Being unable to unscrew things is quite a common occurrence for me, a weak and feeble woman with the ambitions of a plumber, electrician and structural engineer. The most recent thing was a bathroom tap that I couldn't dismantle. It took three weeks with the penetrating oil, but after that it came undone easily.

I don't know if this is a head or soundhole adjusted rod, which would make a difference to ease of access. However, if you can get easy access to the adjuster nut it sometimes works if you hold a soldering iron to the nut for a while, the heat will make the nut expand slightly and may make it easier to turn. Take it easy though, a stripped thread on a rod is a pig to repair.
