Was in CC Music in Glasgow for the first time yesterday. They had 3 cedar topped Furch/Stonebridge guitars in stock. Two of them were dreads, one with Mahogany back and sides and the other with Sapele. The third one was a Concert sized model with I think Sapele b&s. I honestly couldn't believe how good these guitars sounded. They were all under £600 and they all sounded better to me than a Martin HD28 which they had in the shop.
Has anyone got or owned one of these? I'm seriously tempted..

Decent wee shop, that! I've had a few guitars from there - the acoustic room is nice and comfy I think Nuffsed from here has a Stonebridge. It's a very nice guitar.

I've never owned a Stonebridge, but I've played a few and they've always seemed like really good value for money.
I was quite tempted by a spruce/mahogany OM at one point, but was put off by the truly awful, sick-Dalmatian-style pickguard. Thankfully they seem to have abandoned those for the more recent ones.

Yep, Stonebridge / Furch owner here. I've played a fair few of these guitars over the last few years and I'm never disappointed. Mine is a dread - a D32SM, I think. Really nice sound - it was the resonance in the bass and on the open chords that did it for me. I fell in love. Might well get another sometime in the future - maybe a smaller body with a cutaway for fingerstyle.

.............. I think Nuffsed from here has a Stonebridge. It's a very nice guitar. Yes he does - an OM in cedar/mahogany... OM-22-cm or something. Lovely thing. Even when Glyn plays it... Keith

Furch also used to make Stanford guitars, that were really good and at a reasonable price.
Stonebridge guitars are excellent, I don't think you can go wrong, at those prices.

That's what I tought when I read your first post: "sounds like he played some of the Durango series". This series was in deed a lot of value-for-money. As far as I know (I may be wrong, of course) the Durangos are not built anymore. Neither under the Furch nor the Stonebridge label. So if you're thinking of getting one, don't hesitate too long :-)

Yes, the specs are comparable. Cedar solid top, laminated back & sides and open pore finish. Sounds like it.

I bought a Furch 00M32 recently from CCMusic. I was after a small bodied guitar that would be comfortable to play when sitting in the couch, and would suit fingerstyle. I had the guitar tech take the scratch guard off - I'm pretty careful with instruments, and my other guitar I've had for over 20yrs without a scratchguard has survived pretty well.
Here's the bad points:
A lot of money. Slight buzz at 9th fret and up when in DADGAD, capoed at 3, guess I just need to tweak the truss. Being totally OCD, I did a lot of searching about on the interwebs for reviews. The only negative comments I could see were suggestions that because the bracing is so light, the soundboards on some (older?) guitars have warped. i think it's the light bracing which is the key to its sound though.
Here's the good points.
It is totally amazing. I love it. I've hardly stopped playing with it since I bought it. I'd tried some way more expensive big name guitars and been thoroughly unimpressed. That made me feel a lot better about the price.
I'm thinking of putting a mic in it, probably the miniflex 2mic one. I put a stagepro anthem in my other and it sounds awesome, but there's a niggle in my mind about its rather soft piezo element, which I can't help feeling will alter the sound of the guitar - I can't see how it won't affect the transmission of sound from the strings when playing acoustically.
Here's the thing though for the OP. I would buy another Furch without any problem, and I expect to do so. I don't think I really need to look anywhere else.

A warm welcome to you, MartinS and it seems you've not only got a great name, but also great taste in guitars If you get the chance, maybe post a bit about you and your guitar etc in the Intro section. Other than that, I hope you stick around and have fun

Hello and welcome MartinS - excellent first post! I used a Miniflex at one time - can give pretty good sound, though not necessarily suitable for all situations if stage sound levels are high etc etc. Quite liked it for solo stuff. Keith
