I am over GAS too. Ralph Bown is working on my 0-12 and Chuck Lee is building another banjo for me. Apart from a wonderful Kevin Ryan Nightingale that I've played and the tempting fact that, at my suggestion, a friend has ordered a Madagascar RW 000-12 from Ralph and I would like one too, and the strong temptation to get my hands on a Wingert Model E, a McAlister C......
Yep definitely no GAS here

I too am GAS free. Perhaps it's my love of Fyldes (particularly my relatively elderly pair), perhaps it's my advancing age and, Heaven forfend, the onset of maturity or perhaps ... it's just poverty.

I thought within my price limit,I was fairly GAS free, but have just purchased an Avalon Gold Series S200CE for £550,which was about affordable for me and the closest I will get to a Lowden currently.Awaiting delivery. Has anyone experience of these?

Congrats, that sounds like a good deal yorkshire. Haven't played any of the gold series (tho' see edit below), but I did think that the cheaper silver series guitar (Korean made, laminated b/s) I played some years ago was a pretty good guitar in it's price range.. As far as I know, the Gold series models, all solid woods, were originally made in Ireland and then production switched to the Furch factory in the Czech Republic at some stage - either way I'm sure it will be an extremely well made and great sounding guitar. Maybe you might do a short (or long!) review of it for us some time....? Keith Edit - Oooh, just remembered, I have played scorpiodog 's Avalon too, which is lovely, though I have no idea of model/series etc.

Mine's definitely a Silver Series. I think it's an AS201CE. I quite like it, but I shall be selling it soon. I used it primarily for gigging, but since I've had the Martin I've not used it at all.
Phenomenally good value, though. A really nice guitar.

I had one of the very early Irish Avalons. Can't recall the model but it was about Lowden 'O' size, spruce and mahogany. It was a very nice guitar, somewhere between a Taylor and a Lowden in terms of feel I remember thinking. I sold it on commission through a shop - pretty sure the same guitar subsequently turned up for sale in a different shop with a broken headstock repair. Shame.

Must admit to having had a little look around Nigel's website earlier after seeing that picture above. I just love the simple and stylish binding on that guitar. And as Martin says, what a sound.
