GASless and bible black, .... START AGAIN! What is the cure for having no GAS? Should I want a cure? This is very strange. I can't remember a previous occasion where that strange idea of celebrating yet another year notched up nearer to meeting the Grim Reaper hasn't involved great hissing of GAS in all directions, and a difficulty of narrowing down all the choices of music making goodies. Deadline approaching and what do I have just now for GAS? Zero, zilch, zip, nil, nought, nothing, nada. The square root of bugger all. Mark

Keep calm, my Friend. This is called contentment. You have obviously found your musical soul mate.
Watch out for the 7 year itch, though.

You are now a mature man. Have pity on the rest of us and transfer your cash to us more needy souls who are still under the influence of GAS

Nah, you're clearly broken. Life holds no more for you - one way ticket to Dignitas the only viable option...

Your Aunty Pete would advise taking up another instrument. I currently have PPTYDHTPIS, a combination of letters which happens to be both an acronym for Proper Piano That You Don't Have To Plug In Syndrome and the Tibetan word for bicycle pump.

I tidied my little home office last weekend - put all of my acoustic guitars away except one. It was lovely and spacious and... tidy. But I did need to get a second guitar out to save having to keep re-tuning the one. Then I pulled a third back out of the wardrobe, my gigging guitar, because I figured if I was going to use it this weekend I ought to give it a run-out. Then I fancied a bit of flat-picking so I pulled out the dread... and also the oval hole. And suddenly the room was full of guitars again :-) Looking at them, it struck me that I'll probably never need another guitar. Accidents aside, these will see me out. But that's need. Not want. I quite fancy a really good electro acoustic with a tuner built in and top notch electrics that could become my main gigger. I fancy a resonator, too. Maybe a parlour. And I definitely need a J45 before my time is done. Maybe once I've added those four I really will be GAS free...

You could do with instituting an official birthday as well as the unofficial one. By the time it comes around, GAS will almost certainly have returned.

OMG you should definitely not remain in this abnormal state for any longer than necessary. I definitely have the solution. I suggest getting out and about with your guitar. If you are already doing so , do it some more! I was perfectly happy with my sweet classical until I realized I had to make a distinct effort to be heard at the appropriate volume when playing with a dozen or so other guitarists in an orchestra. No sooner had a GAS-attack solved that problem, when I accompanied my students at a campfire singalong with my one remaining steel string acoustic (a 712). Up until that time I had considered it to be the perfect guitar for me. The only guitar I can easily transition to from the classical without my left hand screaming "uncle!" and with a splendid tone apt to garner unsolicited comments of praise. However outdoors over background noise, it leaves a lot to be desired in the volume department. So yet again I am considering my options - get a louder acoustic ? (maybe one of N Forster's little banjo-killers?) or perhaps a portable amp? .... Perhaps I should henceforth lock myself in my room at all times except for necessary sojourns to work and eat so I don't succumb???

... I currently have PPTYDHTPIS, ... Just had a flashback to my 1970s primary school reading test - pretty sure that was one of the words that earned top marks in those days. Have you seen a doctor?

It would be nice if it truly was "contentment" or the sign of being "a mature man" that were put up as possibilities for my state by generous souls. Possibly the theory put forward by Leo of me being broken is closer to the mark. Or at least of my brain being broken and my decision making faculties being burnt out. I did say to my better half the day before your post Martin that maybe I should consider a banjo. I'll resist making a joke about what that says about my state of mind. Particularly in view of the very musical banjo clip recently posted on the forum. Normal service did resume as far as GAS is concerned. However an unpromising start after making the decision. Now ... if I was a glass half full person I'd maybe think it's an unpromising start followed by promising future. We shall see. A 6-stringer (1) to be delivered by my birthday of (2) an in stock item with (3) a free set up and (4) tracked delivery turns into .... (1) Delivered after my birthday (2) Coming from the distributor so not "in stock" at all (3) As a result of (2) with no free set up by the shop (4) No details of the delivery - the shop will "try to find out" from the distributor Tuesday morning. In response to my query on the lack of set up I am told by the shop that the distributor will have checked the instrument to make sure it is "playable" before it got sent. Oh aye - sure - pull the other one! If it needs set up that'll be around £45 (at least) for petrol for two drives up to Edinburgh, plus parking, plus the set up charge. Which would quite likely lead to a request for a credit or if refused a return under the distance selling regs. Mark

Viking Blues, I too am currently GASless, although I would not walk away from the " junk shop (or attic Leo) gem.
This state however has emphasised my woeful inadequacy on playing my now ageing D15s and 00028vs.
One just cannot win.
