I was recently approached out of the blue by a Richard Lord who has developed a video simulation of Rochdale c.1900, and wanted to use my recording of the Rochdale Coconut Dance as one of the backing tracks. I recorded this tune a while ago on davewhite 's spruce-topped Ceol Binn III, to be honest I'd forgotten about it but delighted that to hear that someone has found a way to put it to use. I know nothing about Rochdale but the video is very interesting (the tune starts around 4min): I think the video is still being worked on and currently unlisted but Richard has invited me to share it anyway.

Wow - that's a lovely way to use your recording, Joe - it works really well in the context of the video, and it was good to hear the Oldham Tinkers again too. Enjoyed the whole thing v much!
I think you need a manager now....

That's my mandolin!! Excellent Joe, really enjoyed that and your bit is definitely a I worked in the Rochdale Council Architects Department 1984 to 1989 during which, amongst many other things, I designed the new electrical installation for the Town Hall seen in this video with the clock tower. I have very fond memories of my time working there, in fact probably my happiest working days. Thanks very much for posting this. Regards Phil

That was really interesting - like a virtual 1900 Google street view. The mandolin was the best bit.

Loved the whole thing. A really clever virtual tour with great music. The tune you played is used by many North-west morris sides. The title always amused me and made me think -- "Ah, Rochdale, the swaying palms, the coconuts, the hula girls, err.... the Pennine gales"
