I'm going to replace my Pickup the World Trio with a Baggs Anthem and am wondering whether the SL version would do me just as well and even be a little simpler. Is anyone here using either of these two pickups? I have the Lyric in my Walker and like it fine, but it's troublesome on stage with monitors.
Any experience out there?

I have an sl and I love it. The piezo and mic are the same on both, I believe the anthem has a phase switch and an easily adjustable volume and blend control; whereas, the sl has only a volume and the blend requires an adjustment tool.
I found it very easy to dial in a blend I was happy with, almost full mic, in my case. The sound is excellent, zero problems with feedback.
The smaller control panel looks neater in my opinion. The sound quality is the same on both systems, as far as I can tell from the specs.
I use a fishman platinum pro eq after the guitar, for slight compression, hi pass filter, tuner and mild eq. I am very pleased with the sound. I was very pleased with it with just the pickup, but the extra control on the di is nice.
I would have loved to try a baggs venue Di side by side with the fishman unit, but I am happy with the fishman.
Anyhow, off topic. For me, the price difference between the two units wasn't justified for essentially a battery check and a phase switch (fishman Di has a phase anyhow). Having said that, I have not tested both units, although I believe their sound quality to be identical.

Thanks for the feedback alexanderreay . I'm still deliberating. There's a little bit more to the difference between the two that you mention - the full Anthem allows you to change the crossover frequency between the two parts of the system, so you can go all UST Element or a full mix of both. The idea of that is to minimise feedback on stage and that's part of the appeal. Like you, I'm just not sure that it's justified and the bigger control unit puts me off a bit too. From the research I've done, it seems that the SL would probably do the job fine though, and be a little less complicated. As you do, I run through a DI which has notch filtering, phase switch etc. so I should be golden with the SL. I'm just looking for some real world examples and you've given me a great one. Thanks!

I have a fair amount of experience with the Anthem Stagepro, and it's all been positive. The sound is very good, and the extras are all useful.
I recently bought another guitar to replace my old one with the Stagepro fitted, and I swithered a long time about swapping it onto the new one.
In the end the guitar I bought had an SL fitted by the previous owner, and although I've not played it through a PA, it does sound very similar to the Anthem through phones and a mixing desk, so I'm happy so far,
I think the Anthem is a good retrofit to a guitar that's already had a side-mounted preamp, but I don't think I could bring myself to cut a big hole in a nice guitar where there wasn't already one. The other thing is that hardware/technology changes, so who knows what you might want to put on your guitar in 5 years.
The SL can be removed without any damage if required.
Currently I'm thinking of taking the Anthem off the old guitar and selling that (guess it's worth more than the guitar)

Thanks MartinS. You can get the full Anthem without the barndoor. I wouldn't dream of cutting into my nice blackwood side!

Ah, didn't know, thanks.
Out of interest, which DI with notch filter do you use?

I have a Baggs PADI and a Venue DI. The Venue is a great device but I may sell it in favour of the Grace Felix once I've saved up a bit more gig money.

No problem. You are indeed correct, the anthem has the extra crossover control over the sl, I wasn't sure if it was a different feature or just a different way of adjusting it.
How do you find it paired with the venue Di? I was very close to buying one, but, I heard mixed reviews about the tuner and the fishman had built in compression so it won. Also, price.

The Lyric and Venue DI is a good combo, but the tuner is not great on the Venue. The boost and mute features are really useful though and the tone shaping is pretty decent. The Lyric through the DI was giving me feedback problems at our last big-venue gig, but it works well in the coffee shop where I play.
I wonder how the Lyric coupled with a K&K pure mini would sound?

They should work well together so long as you have the option of changing the blend - a stereo out signal?
