Have just popped into Celtic Music in Stonehaven (after walking 250 miles across the Scottish Highlands).
I played a OOO short scale guitar made by Steve Agnew - spruce and walnut. Perfect for ragtime and Ralph McTelly stuff.
The best guitar I have played this year.
Anyone know any more about Steve?

Name rung a bell...
He's opened up a workshop in Pitscottie (Fife) - I noticed it on the way to pick up my Taran.
Luthiers - like buses, nothing local for years and now there's two I know of!

I've owned 2 Steve Agnews. A 000 and a 00. Both superb guitars. They sound good even if you have short nails and play with the fleshy parts of your fingers. Responsive with a warm middle that gives them a very musical tone. Steve comes from a high end furniture background. He's been making guitars and mandolins for quite a few years now. He started in Skipton, just down the road from me. We became friends and he did some great work on some of my non-Agnew acoustics. He moved to Edinburgh and then, Fife. He tends to prefer making smaller bodied guitars. 000 down to Parlour. His Parlours are spot on. Her's some I've played or owned.

This 000 was a wonderfully 'sweet' sounding guitar and compared very well to a walnut Brook Tamar which was more 'Celtic-y'

Aire Valley Guitars, in Keighley, always have 2 or 3 Agnews in. They've got an amazing 00, 12 fretter in. One of the best guitars I've ever played.

Keith I've been very tempted, Keith. But the dark side has drained my funds. And those Agnews, although worth it, ain't cheap.
