A couple of weeks back, I asked on this forum and another is anyone knew of a European maker of Tor-tis™ - like pickguards. Importing stuff from USA to Germany s a right old carry on, so I was keen to find someone closer. There was no response. Bah. So I had a go myself. I've been messing for what seems like hours, and I tell you what, I think I've cracked it! I've written it all up on the blog. Nigel www.nkforsterguitars.com/blog/tor-tis-pickguards/

Looks good I've been thinking of putting a blonde pick guard on a cedar topped guitar this could put an end to my so far fruitless search for an albino tortoise

They look good Nigel, I know that Mario Proulx has been making his own custom cast pickguards for some years now, so you're in good company.

You should have let sleeping dogs lie, nkforster ... I'll be breaking out my casting resin first thing in the morning! (They look great, by the way.)

I'm inspired now: couldn't you do clear ones with bits of dead fly gathered from the workshop windowsills embedded in them to match your relic'd models? I don't see why dead turtles should have the monopoly.

Looks like I'm in the pickguard business folks! I had my first order for one the other week from a chap in Germany who wanted one to fit his Santa Cruz. Whilst I was on with that I made moulds for Martin D45's D18's and Gibson L00's. The first few are up on ebay. Nigel www.nkforsterguitars.com/handmade-acoustic-pickguards/
