Clever stuff! I wonder if the audience realised what had happened? Probably not.

I do that all the time. Unintentionally but, nonetheless...

Superb. Don't think I could pull that off, but it was neatly done.

Oh that's very clever indeed - love the arm-waving drummer celebrating at the back. He's a talented chap is Harry C.
But changes in time signatures can be very smooth. Here's Antoine Dufour's "These Moments" (been working on this myself recently so got to know it inside out, my right index finger is still recovering from the beating), which has a nice change from 4/4 to 7/8 (at 0:53 and again at 2:22):

I was going to post a photo of an orchestra piece we played last semester where the time sig changed every bar... Can't get it to work ...such a technical genius I am...

Nice technique on the video by Harry Connick Jr! I can certainly sass that hoopy Antoine Dufour Alison! His skills at seamlessly changing 4/4 to 7/8 is way beyond me. I'm lucky if I can manage 4/4. The problem of an audience clapping and ruining a song reminds me of advice at the beginning of a song given to an audience by Christy Moore. Along the lines of "some songs are improved by you all clapping along, but with some it just *%*@s it up - and this is one of those so don't *%*@ing clap". It worked too despite the crowd being rather boisterous. Mark

- yes, but Antoine was changing tempo in a rehearsed piece, learned to include the timing change. This is considerably easier than inserting an extra beat spontaneously as per Harry Connick. Unless, of course, that was a well rehearsed strategy that just had to await the right opportunity to be used. (cynical, moi?)
Agree entirely with Christy Moore!
