Hi folks, Well, as some of you know, I've been on a bit of a search the last year or so for a guitar that compliments my Martin OM28v, one that I can fit an LR Baggs Anthem SL in and one that I can gig in alternate tunings. After a few different guitars have been and gone (the last being the 00028VS I sold yesterday) I *think* I've found the guitar in a Collings OM2h SS VN - Short (000-style 24.9") Scale, Vintage Now (1 3/4" nut, 2 5/16" bridge spacing) neck. Very beautiful guitar, with great woods - similar in feel and vibe to my Martin but more 'Hi-Fi' sounding, with an emphasis on the mids and treble overtones rather than bass overtones - some people claim that Collings are 'bright' but, to my ear, it's just that the bass and lower-mids are 'drier' than the Martin tone. The shorter scale length makes the guitar feel a bit more slinky, and the action is ridiculously low with a compound radius which means it plays cleanly the whole length of the fretboard. It seems to take D based (DADGAD etc etc) tunings very well, and I've had an Anthem installed which works really well. Overall I'm pretty chuffed - the guitar is similar enough but also different enough to my OM. The only thing that is not 100% is that the neck is quite a bit smaller than the Mod V on my OM and, on the odd day, it seems to make my hand sore a little bit, although, in the 6 weeks or so that I've had the guitar, this has got better... Here's a new song I wrote and recorded with the guitar a couple of weeks ago - benmorganbrown.bandcamp.com/track/sunken-treasureAnyway, pictures!

Wow, that's a stunner. Good move. I'd be interested to compare the Anthem with the SL, having just installed an Anthem myself. I guess for true comparison it would need to be in the same guitar though. Anyway, hope you enjoy it as much as I'm enjoying my Anthem

Congratulations on the new guitar. It looks great - nice, tasteful take on the OM shape and that rosewood back is lovely. Enjoy!

Very nice Ben. I'll be down to Mansons in a few week's time. Hope to see you there.

Congrats on the purchase! Looks great and sounds great too. I'll admit that I find many guitars are too bass heavy (and boomy) and that ones referred to as bright are better balanced for my ears. Shorter scale and lower action makes it sound very playable. Enjoy! Mark

Anyway, hope you enjoy it as much as I'm enjoying my Anthem I actually have the SL in both guitars - I don't need the extra controls of the full Anthem and I like to keep things as simple as possible... I really like the SL in both guitars, although it is louder and more bassy in the Martin, which dies reflect the unplugged sound, but it can be annoying switching between the two guitars at gigs... My Orchis DI allows me to adjust the tone/volume if I remember!
