This is glorious.
For those that don't know, John is best known for his work with band Solas, and fiddler Liz Carroll. He's always been a bit of a favourite of mine because he's got his own (very recognisable) style, and he is of course hugely talented. By all accounts a nice guy too.
Next on the 'learn' list for me.
(Tune starts at about 50s after an intro.)

Lovely! I admire his playing too, esp solo (when his great singing gets an airing too) and with Liz Carroll. Fiddle/guitar can be a sublime combo.

Enjoyed that. I always wish I could play that hybrid picking style using plectrum and fingers. Other players I admire with this technique are Gordon Giltrap, Julian Lage, Steve Howe - maybe even our own Gavin Davenport uses this but not completely sure gavdav ? in any case Gav's method sounded great at Halsway - perhaps he should teach it next year. Phil Taylor - I am just starting to explore it. I've just picked up a Lowden L32C so will be indulging in sub Richard Thompson shenanigans for a while I fear
