Some of you may be aware of the uncompleted history of this competition - if not you can catch up with it here and here. With no winner I sent the prize guitar "Samhradh" on an Acoustic Soundboard Roadtrip. This weekend I was at the Halsway Manor Acoustic Guitar Weekend hosted by Gavin Davenport ( gavdav) together with Keith, Phil and Richard ( ocarolan, Phil Taylor and Riverman). "Samhradh" was due to be handed over there from Keith to Phil as the next Road Trip participant. Sometimes fate and circumstances take an uncanny control and the stars and planets form a perfect alignment. Kitty Macfarlane was also at Halsway Manor and after listening to her sing and perform in the bar sing around on Friday evening and talking to Gavin about her and her career it was obvious to me where "Samhradh" was destined to go and at last I have found a winner for the YAGMC 2016. She was a little overwhelmed but delighted to have "Samhradh" and I'm excited to see where their musical journey goes from here. You can find out all about her on her website and she's promised to sign up as a Forum member and join in the fun here. Keith took an embarrassing picture of the handover which I'm sure he'll post here. The downside is that the "Samhradh Road Trip" has come to an abrupt end and I apologise profusely to those waiting to take part - I'll post on the Road Trip thread and e-mail participants separately - and I'll see if I can remedy that with another Road Trip in the near future but this was a carpe diem moment that had to be taken with "Samhradh" fulfilling the destinty of its creation.

davewhite -Quick off the mark there Dave - I've not had my breakfast yet - sadly it won't be a Halsway cooked one today, but the toast will be ready pretty quickly, so it's not all bad! Although I'll report on Halsway and also on the completion of the Samhradh Road Trip separately, I've just uploaded the relevant pics for this thread - Official handover pic - Dave and Kitty aren't quite legless, their legs have just shrunk a little - Kitty using Samhradh in the singaround the next day, not enough light for a sharp pic, or maybe everything really was a bit blurry by then - Kitty will indeed be a worthy Samhradh bearer - her Taylor didn't respond too well to her gentle picking style when not plugged in - Samhradh is just right to bring out the best in a bare-fingered approach, as well as being an ideal size. She was somewhat overwhelmed by Dave's generosity and didn't quite believe it for a day or so, but I have to agree with Dave that Samhradh seems to have found the right home. I hope the subsequent Road Trippers who have missed out on their chance to try Samhradh will be able to catch Kitty at one of her gigs and hear why Dave made this decision. And maybe the cheques he'll be putting in the post for you all will soften the blow. That last bit was a lie. Keith

Dammit. An open cheque would have been more than welcome. I was pencilled in for November but i've got no problem with Dave's decision. This is all extremely generous of you Dave and, hopefully, we'll see some clips of Kitty (my mothers name) performing with the guitar. John

Talk of the devil, just the other day mel and I were just wondering what was going to happen to the Young Acoustic Magician's guitar and whether the competition was still going on. Saturday afternoon, it was, between 2 and 3pm I imagine. Spooky, eh? Well, what a great outcome. Congratulations to you-all for seizing the day and congratulations to her for being good enough to accept the offer from a bunch of old blokes (if you'll excuse the expression). No wonder she was wary! I look forward to hearing her playing it. Gives one a warm glow.

Damn it. On her website it says that she does "the odd Anne Briggs cover". That doesn't mean she's going to swipe the other prize guitar as well, does it?!

That's fantastic news, davewhite , though I am, of course, significantly less than gruntled that I won't get the chance to be custodian for a short while. I look forward to (virtually) meeting Kitty and, hopefully, hearing her play Samradh in the near future. Top work - and, with 5 of you agreeing, who are we to quibble? (and no need for an email, I'll get over it LOL)

It sure is a wonderful guitar, and seems to have found the right home. Plays like a dream quietly or otherwise. Well done, Dave.

Just listened to her song Wrecking Days. Wow, she's a cut above. Good choice Mr White.
