I've fancied playing one for a while. I can't get on with the usual classical guitars that I've tried (neck too wide...flat fretboard) but doing an internet search provides info about these hybrid classical/steel strung guitars that appear to have more playability factors for a current acoustic player. I don't see any to try in my local guitar shops and I'm curious to know how they play and sound.

Ive a standard classical nylon strung guitar, and it's a lovely thing to play, but with the styles I play it doesn't get enough use. Haven't really tried the hybrids, but don't see why they wouldn't be a very good solution to someone looking for the sound without the wide board.

And it looks like Yamaha and Alvarez do a few lines in hybrid nylon guitars with smaller/thinner necks and a curved fretboard. Just need to find outlets near me that sell them!

I have problems with playing a standard classical guitar Stan. Flat fretboard, wide neck and arthritic fingers are far from ideal, and it was while playing classical guitar and going for lessons that I first aggravated my finger joints badly. I still fancied a nylon string sound again and fairly recently went down the route of a smaller size classical guitar and got a La Mancha Rubi CM53. 7/8 size, narrow neck, 630mm scale, 47mm neck width at nut. Solid Canadian cedar soundboard. I got it from Classical Guitars PlusNone of my usual problems of playing a classical guitar with this one. A thread about it on the forum hereMark

Thanks for your post vikingblues. And I enjoyed reading your link to your review of the guitar. I feel another internet search of nylon strung guitars coming on!

I just bought an old Lowden nylon strung which has a radiused fingerboard and it is really lovely to play. It needs a bit of work doing to get it fixed up, but it's a really interesting hybrid.
