I've just recently had some pickups installed into my Steve Fischer Concerto. It now has a Highlander IP2 and a K&K pickup. Output is via a 1/4" stereo jack and TRS cable. In order to blend the pickup signal, I needed to source a suitable acoustic DI pre-amp. I have used a D-Tar Solstice before and was pretty impressed, however the Solstice has been discontinued. Finally settled on a Radial Tonebone PZ-Pre which is amazing. This great little box allows me to blend the stereo pickup signals from the guitar to dial in the sound I want. Additionally it sports on-board EQ, a notch filter for feedback elimination and a mute switch. The box also has a blend/mix switch which allows you to go from a blend mix mode to an input toggle mode to allow you to have two instruments plugged in and toggle between them. Obviously, I am using it in blend/mix mode to handle the two pickups in the Fischer. Anyway, I'm very happy with the results.
As an aside, the pickup installation was done by Stuart Palmer of Electro Music, Doncaster. He's been in the business for 35 years and really knows his stuff. Martin Simpson uses him for all things guitar tech.
Cheers,
Ian

I can't pretend that I understand a word of what you just wrote there, Ian, but I'm delighted that you're delighted

Am kind of interested in the choice Ian. Highlander and K&K - what's it sound like? No thoughts of a mic?

I wanted the Highlander all along as I think they are simply great pickups. I also wanted to install something like a feather pickup in order to provide something different to the Highlander and then blend the two output signals to get exactly the sound I wanted. I was contemplating using a Macintyre feather pickup and then Stuart suggested the K&K. Great choice. I'm very happy with the results. The Tonebone pre-amp is really very good too. TRS stands for Tip Rim Sleeve. Such a cable is balanced and capable of carrying a stereo signal, which is exactly what my setup calls for.
Cheers,
Ian

Cheers, Ian I was torn about the Highlander the last time I installed a pickup. I went for a Headway in the end which I'm quite pleased with. Have only ever really considered blending in a mic before but I remember Martin telling me he was using the Feather. Am seriously wounding about one of these in one of my guitars: www.vanden.co.uk/kudos.htm
